A talk on partition of India was held at the Russian House in Kolkata
On 22 September 2022, eminent filmmaker from Bangladesh Tanvir Mokammel delivered a talk entitled "Partition to Liberation" with extracts and illustrations from his films. The event was organized by Eisenstein Cine Club and held at the Russian House in Kolkata.
Tanvir Mokammel spoke in details about the effects of partition of India in both sides of the newly created border. He mentioned that while the year 2022 marks 75th anniversary of independence in India and Pakistan, this year also marks also the division and partition of the undivided India. He outlined the tragic circumstances of this period of history and traced paths till the liberation of Bangladesh in 1971.
Mr. Mokammel highly praised and acknowledged the great support and huge friendly assistance of the government and people of India, the then Soviet Union and today's Russia provided to the people of Bangladesh in their struggle for liberation.
Great sacrifices of people and military personnels of Russia along with of India for the liberation were noted. Mr. Mokammel specifically mentioned the significance and importance of the Indo-Soviet Treaty of Peace, Friendship and Cooperation of 1971 and the support and assistance of the friendly government and people of Russia for the people of Bangladesh till this date.
The audience was taken through the visuals of the period with footage from Mokammel's films.

The location was not chosen by chance - the museum hosts the exhibition “The Right to Choose” about the various periods of the formation of Russian elected institutions.
During the week, participants in the New Generation program from Algeria, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Guinea-Bissau, Cambodia, Malaysia, Mexico, Mongolia, Namibia, Nepal, Nicaragua, Sierra Leone, Tunisia, Uganda, Pakistan, Colombia and the United States will get acquainted with the Russian electoral system, traditional and new election technologies.
👀 On the first day of the course, representatives of the Russian Central Election Commission spoke about the compilation of voter lists and the criteria for registering candidates for elective positions. Foreign experts also voiced questions that interested them. For example, what is the risk for Russian voters of not showing up for elections and what is the maximum budget for holding elections in Russia?

🇷🇺 Russian House in Kolkata celebrates the International Mother Language Day
Today, the world celebrates International Mother Language Day. Russian language students of the Russian House in laid flowers to the memorial of the language martyrs on the invitation of the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission.
The holiday was established by UNESCO to protect cultural and linguistic diversity after the tragic events of 1952 in Bangladesh with the Bengali language movement.
We offer some interesting facts about the languages of the peoples of Russia 👇
📚 193 peoples living in Russia use approximately 277 languages and dialects. The peoples of Russia speak languages that are not part of any family - they are called isolated languages.
📜 Proto-Slavic language is the “ancestor” of all ancient and modern Slavic languages.
📃 The common East Slavic language emerged around the VI-VII century, and later the Old Russian language was formed, which existed until the XIV century.
📌 Tabasaran is one of the northeastern languages of the Lezgin group, known for its unique case system, since names can have about 46 different cases.
📌 Ket is the only language of the Yenisei family of languages that is still in use. The Ket language preserves elements of the living Ket culture and is important for preserving their heritage.
📌 In the Adyghe language, a verb can replace an entire sentence.
📌 In the Yakut language, many words begin with the letter “s”.
📌 In the Chechen language, counting is done in twenties.

Сегодня мир отмечает Международный день родного языка. Студенты-русисты Русского дома возложили цветы к мемориалу активистов в защиту бенгальского языка по приглашению Верховного комиссариата Бангладеш.
Праздник был учрежден ЮНЕСКО для защиты культурного и языкового разнообразия после трагических событий в Бангладеш 1952 года с активистами движения в защиту бенгальского языка.

🚢 🌍 On August 17, retracing the first Soviet expedition to the North Pole, the international team of "Icebreaker of Knowledge - 2024" aboard the nuclear-powered icebreaker "50 Let Pobedy" (50 Years of Victory) has reached the North Pole!
🗺 For the first time in the project's history, representatives from the World Youth Festival from 15 countries are taking part in the journey: Russia, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Mongolia, Hungary, India, China, South Africa, Cameroon, Iraq, Bangladesh, and Tunisia.
👨🏫 During the expedition, participants will:
- Familiarize themselves with the icebreaker's operations
- Study the unique Arctic nature
- Take part in the northernmost lecture series by Rosatom and the Russian Society "Znanie"
- Send postcards from the northernmost post office on Franz Josef Land
- Become stars of the first documentary series about the life of an international team of schoolchildren in the hard Arctic conditions.
