What is the calendar of Jacob Bruce?
In January 1709, the Calendar by Jacob Bruce was first published. It predicted the weather and the future, could "decipher" the fate of any person. The calendar was so popular throughout Russia that it was being published for two centuries.
Its author was Jacob Daniel Bruce (1669-1735), a Scottish-born general field marshal in service of the Russian army. He made many aspects of astrology accessible to everyone. Alexander Pushkin later called Bruce "Russian Faust", and Muscovites believed that he turns lead into gold, creates an artificial person and knows the recipe for "living" water.
The Bruce's Calendar was a discovery for the people, because previously people used only Orthodox church calendars. The new calendar has been supplemented with astronomical data and other useful information. It consisted of two parts: reference and predictive. For example, the calendar predicted the birth of Fyodor Dostoevsky: in 1821, "a great man will be born," who, despite "physical ailments," will become famous for "insurmountable labors."
Over time, the Bruce's Calendar turned into a voluminous reference book. With each new edition, new sections were added to it, and old forecasts were changed to current predictions for future years.

Его автор, Яков Брюс, сделал многие аспекты астрологии доступными для всех желающих. Пушкин называл Брюса «русским Фаустом», а москвичи верили, что он превращает свинец в золото, занимается созданием искусственного человека и знает рецепт «живой» воды.
«Брюсов календарь» стал открытием для народа, ведь до него люди пользовались только православными святцами. Новый календарь был дополнен астрономическими данными и другой полезной информацией. Он состоял из двух частей: справочной и предсказательной. Например, в календаре было предсказано рождение Достоевского: в 1821 году «появится на свет человек велик», который, несмотря «на хвори телесные», прославится «трудами неподымаемы».
Со временем «Брюсов календарь» превратился в объемный справочник. С каждой новой редакцией в него добавляли новые разделы, а старые прогнозы меняли на актуальные предсказания на будущие годы.
