Peoples of Russia: Chechens
Chechens are one of the oldest peoples of the North Caucasus, who settled on this territory back in the 13th century. According to the 2010 census, 1 million 431 thousand Chechens live in Russia.
The self-name of Chechens is "Nohchy" and it unites both mountain dwellers and plain dwellers. Since old times the main occupation of Chechens has been cattle breeding, hunting, beekeeping and bread making. Women did household chores, wove cloth, made carpets, and sewed shoes and garments.
The notion of the teip was of tremendous importance in Chechen culture. It is a clan and territorial association of people united by a common ancestor. It is not something one chooses, but one should be proud of it. Each teip has its own clan territory, a mountain, a tower, a cemetery. There are now about 200 teips in all.
One of the most interesting dishes of Chechen cuisine is zhizhig-galnash - pieces of boiled meat with dumplings of wheat or corn flour. The dish is eaten hot, the meat is dipped in garlic sauce and drunk in broth poured into bowls.

Чеченцы - один из древнейших народов Северного Кавказа, поселившийся на этой территории ещё в XIII веке. По данным переписи населения 2010 года в России живет 1 млн 431 тысяча чеченцев. Самоназвание чеченцев - «нохчий», оно объединяет как жителей гор, так и жителей равнин.
Главным занятием чеченцев издавна было скотоводство, охота, пчеловодство и хлебопашество. Женщины работали по хозяйству, ткали сукно, изготавливали ковры, шили обувь и платья. Очень важным для чеченской культуры является понятие «тейп». Это родовое и территориальное объединение людей, связанных общими предками. Его не выбирают, но им нужно гордиться. У каждого тейпа есть своя родовая территория, тейповая гора, башня, кладбище. Всего сейчас существует около 200 тейпов.
Одним из самых интересных блюд чеченской кухни является Жижиг-галнаш - куски отварного мяса с клёцками из пшеничной или кукурузной муки. Блюдо едят горячим, мясо макают в чесночный соус и запивают бульоном, разлитым по пиалам.

The “Heart of Chechnya” mosque is considered one of the most beautiful mosques in Russia. It is located in the very center of Grozny and attracts views from all over the city.
It was opened in 2008 and named in honor of Akhmat Kadyrov, the first president of Chechnya. The area of the mosque is 5 thousand square meters and its capacity is more than 10 thousand people.
Its appearance is striking in its splendor and architectural sophistication. Inside, the walls are decorated with white marble and paintings in the style of historic Chechen ornaments. They were created with special paints that retain their appearance for half a century. The luxurious chandeliers are another special element of the interior decoration. They represent the three most famous shrines of Islam in Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem.
The central dome is surrounded by four minarets 63 meters high, making them the tallest in the country.
The “Heart of Chechnya” serves as a place of prayer and spiritual practice, a symbol of peace and reconciliation in the region. The mosque's halls invite believers and visitors to take a glimpse of the traditions and art of the Chechen people.

Она была открыта в 2008 году и названа в честь Ахмата Кадырова, первого президента Чечни. Площадь мечети составляет 5 тысяч квадратных метров, а вместимость – более 10 тысяч человек.
Ее внешний вид поражает своим великолепием и архитектурной изысканностью. Внутри стены украшены белым мрамором и росписью в стиле исторических чеченских орнаментов. Их создавали специальными красками, которые сохраняют свой вид полвека. Еще один особенный элемент внутреннего убранства – роскошные люстры.
