Old New Year, or Orthodox New Year is a holiday that is celebrated on the night of January 13-14. It marks the beginning of a new year, and the prefix "old" is not accidental. This is a direct reference to the Julian calendar. Thus, the Old New Year is the one that comes according to the old calendar style.
According to old Russian traditions, on this day the countdown of the new agricultural year began. The evening before was called "generous". At home, they set the table and prepared treats that were shared with others, it was also considered a good omen to get hired on this day.
On the Old New Year, they believe in some signs. For example, do not borrow and lend money, otherwise you will spend a year like this. It is not worth celebrating the holiday only in the company of women, it is believed that then he will be unhappy and lonely. If the sun rises high in the morning, the whole year will be happy. There are a lot of pork dishes on the festive table, then the year will be profitable. In addition, on the eve of the holiday, you should not get out - you can “sweep out” luck along with the garbage.

На праздничном столе много блюд из свинины, то год будет прибыльным. Кроме того, накануне праздника не стоит убираться — можно «вымести» удачу вместе с мусором.

On January 19, the entire Orthodox world celebrates the Baptism of our Lord (another name is Epiphany). This is an important holiday for all believers.
It is generally accepted that on this day the prophet John the Baptist performed the rite of baptism over Jesus Christ. The Gospel says that during the sacrament, the Holy Spirit descended from heaven in the form of a dove, who called Jesus “the son of God.”
On this day people observe a number of traditions.
◽️ At midnight on January 19, festive services and blessing of water are held. It is believed that this water does not spoil throughout the year and has healing properties.
◽️ One of the main customs is swimming in an ice hole. Believers plunge three times into a font of ice water, crossing themselves three times.
◽️ After the end of the service, white doves are released into the sky as a symbol of the Holy Spirit and as a symbol of the end of the Christmas holidays.🕊

Принято считать, что в этот день пророк Иоанн Предтеча совершил обряд крещения над Иисусом Христом. В Евангелии говорится, что во время таинства с небес в виде голубя снизошел Святой Дух, который и назвал Иисуса «сыном Божьим».
В этот день люди соблюдают ряд традиций.
◽️ В полночь на 19 января проводятся праздничные богослужения и освящение воды. Считается, что эта вода не портится в течение всего года и имеет лечебные свойства.
◽️ Одним из главных обычаев является купание в проруби. Верующие трижды окунаются в купель с ледяной водой, троекратно осеняя себя крестом.
◽️ После окончания богослужения в небо отпускают белых голубей как символ Святого Духа и как символ завершения рождественских праздников.🕊
