The Shantar Islands are an ideal place to shoot incredible adventure films. The water glows in the dark with fantastic blue light. And bowhead whales dissect the salt water with their huge tails.
Shantars are an archipelago in the western part of the Sea of Okhotsk, which consists of 15 islands, and is also part of the territory of Khabarovsk region. For almost 8 months a year the islands are encased in ice, and they get rid of the ice shell only by the beginning of August. On the islands, the compass needle constantly turns clockwise, because the area has the strongest geomagnetic anomaly.
The resident of the archipelago is a brown bear. Living conditions for bears here are close to ideal: coastal waters pamper with plenty of fish, islands - berry bushes, and seals resting on the rocks in the sun, which are the favorite food of feline hunters.
Here you can also observe the natural phenomenon "suloy". It occurs when two currents meet. The observer sees it in the agitation of waters. It is dangerous for small vessels, the waves can be high. Ships passing such places experience unpleasant ship motions.

Шантары — это архипелаг в западной части Охотского моря, который состоит из 15 островов, а также входит в состав территории Хабаровского края. Почти 8 месяцев в году острова закованы в лед, а избавляется от ледяного панциря только к началу августа. На островах стрелка компаса постоянно крутится по часовой стрелке, потому что в районе сильнейшая геомагнитная аномалия.
Жителем архипелага является бурый медведь. Условия существования для мишек здесь близки к идеальным: прибрежные воды балуют большим количеством рыбы, острова — ягодными кустарниками, а на скалах отдыхают на солнце тюлени, которые являются излюбленной пищей косолапых охотников.
Здесь также можно наблюдать природное явление «сулой». Оно возникает при встрече двух течений. Наблюдатель видит его в волнении вод. Оно опасно для маломерных судов, волны могут быть высокими. Суда, проходя такие места, испытывают неприятную качку.

Presentation on Russian literature held in Kolkata
On February 5th, presentation "Great Names of Russian Literature" was held as part of the events at the International Kolkata Book Fair, the largest one in Asia. It was organized by the Russian House in Kolkata in the national pavilion.
Visitors learned about the peculiarities of Russian literature as a world cultural phenomenon and about the outstanding writers who determined its fundamental features - Alexander Pushkin, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Leo Tolstoy and others.
Russian pavilion will continue its work until February 12.

5 февраля в рамках мероприятий крупнейшей книжной ярмарки Азии - Калькуттской международной книжной ярмарки - состоялась презентация "Великие писатели русской литературы". Мероприятие было проведено Русским домом в Калькутте в павильоне России.
Плсетители узнали об особенностях русской литературы как мирового культурного феномена и о выдающихся писателях, определивших её фундаментальные черты - Александре Пушкине, Фёдоре Достоевском, Льве Толстом и других.
Работа павильона России продолжится до 12 февраля.

With the participation of the Ministry of Construction of Russia, infrastructure is being restored in DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. Specialists from the Tula region restored 18 objects of the Livoberezhnyi District of Mariupol in the DPR. Roofs were overhauled in 16 apartment buildings.
Builders replaced engineering communications: water, heat, electricity and gas supply systems. They installed almost 3 thousand windows. Major repairs were also carried out in the lyceum dormitory and kindergarten.
The plans for 2023 include the repair of roads, schools, kindergartens and the reconstruction of the swimming pool in the sports complex "Locomotive".

При участии Минстроя России восстанавливается инфраструктура в ДНР, ЛНР, Херсонской и Запорожской области. Специалисты из Тульской области восстановили 18 объектов Левобережного района Мариуполя в ДНР. В 16 многоквартирных домах капитально отремонтировали кровли.
Строители заменили инженерные коммуникации: системы водо-, тепло- электро- и газоснабжения, установили почти 3 тыс. окон. В общежитии лицея и детского сада также провели капитальный ремонт.

How Catherine II nearly sent Russian troops to suppress the American Revolution
At the beginning of the American War of Independence, King George III of Britain faced a big problem - he was desperately short of troops to quell the rebellion. So, the monarch asked Russian Empress Catherine II to provide him with 20,000 of her soldiers for a fee. The Russian army had just emerged victorious from a war against the Turks and was at the peak of its combat capability and morale.
A positive response from the empress could have had enormous consequences for the course of world history. With the help of Russian grenadiers, the ‘Redcoats’ would, probably, have been able to suppress the American Revolution and the U.S. would never have appeared as an independent state on the political map of the world.
