80 years ago, the Soviet army inflicted its first major defeat on the Nazi army in the Battle of Moscow
The Battle of Moscow lasted less than 7 months, from September 30, 1941 to April 20, 1942. This battle became one of the most large-scale battles in the Second World War. Over 7 million people took part in the battle.
The Germans were stopped in 25 kilometers from outskirts of Moscow near Kryukovo station, settlement Krasnaya Polyana and Lobnya. After switching to counter-offensive, the Red Army attacked in all strategic directions, driving back the enemy on 100-250 km from the city.
The threat to the capital, which at the same time was the largest hub of all communications, was completely eliminated. No other capital city in the world had previously given such a powerful repulse to the Nazis.
