Art exhibition marks 77th anniversary of the Victory over fascism at the Russian House in Kolkata
On 10th May 2022, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Kolkata Alexey Idamkin has inaugurated the commemorative art exhibition in celebration of the Victory Day in the Great Patriotic war of 1941-1945. He emphasized the importance of preserving historical memory in order to avoid distorting the truth about the World War II.
The exhibition of paintings, sculptures and installations was organized by the Russian House in Kolkata. Indian artists presented their works, dedicated to the Victory over fascism.
Students of the Institute of Russian Language performed a number of poems and songs, some of which had been written during the war and became iconic. Demonstration of the song "Victory Day" concluded the cultural presentation.
The exhibition includes art works by Indian artists, 100 photographs and 50 posters of the flaming years of 1941-1945 along with 13 reproductions of the art works by the artists of Leningrad during the 900 Days of Blockade. Poems written by the Red Army soldiers and partisans at the front lines of the Great Patriotic War of 1941--1945, books and journals on the World War II are also part of the exhibition.
The exhibition will remain open for public viewing from May 10th to 18th, 3 to 6 p.m. daily, except Sundays.
