Father of montage: exhibition of photographs opened at the International Kolkata Book Fair in celebration of 125th birth anniversary of Sergei Eisenstein
On 9 February, a photo exhibition and a documentary screening dedicated to a pioneer of cinema Sergei Eisenstein was held at the International Kolkata Book Fair. Russian House presented the exhibition to visitors of the Russian pavilion. The documentary concentrated on methods of montage developed by Eisenstein and how he used them in his works.
Sergei Eisenstein (22 January 1898 - 11 February 1948) was a Soviet film director, screenwriter, film editor and film theorist. He believed the montage was the nerve of the cinema and could be used to manipulate emotions of the audience. The Soviet artist and director is best known for his silent montage films, including “Strike” (1924), Battleship Potemkin (1925) and “October” (1928).

9 февраля на Международной книжной ярмарке в Калькутте состоялось открытие фотовыставки и показ документального фильма, посвященных пионеру кинематографа Сергею Михайловичу Эйзенштейну. Сергей Михайлович Эйзенштейн (22 января 1898 — 11 февраля 1948) — советский кинорежиссёр, сценарист, монтажёр и теоретик кино. Он считал, что монтаж является ключевым элементом кино и может использоваться для манипулирования эмоциями аудитории. Советский художник и режиссер наиболее известен своими немыми монтажными фильмами, среди которых «Стачка» (1924), «Броненосец Потемкин» (1925) и «Октябрь» (1928).

In celebration of 125th birth anniversary of a Soviet film director and film theorist Sergei Eisenstein, Russian House in Kolkata will hold an exhibition, film screenings and discussions.
The inauguration of the exhibition will be held on 15 February, 5.30 p.m.
Open to all, free entry.
