The Turkic indigenous people, the Altai, comprise representatives of ethnic groups of small peoples: Teleuts, Tubalars, Kumandins, Telengits. They live mainly in two different, but territorially close subjects of the Russian Federation: the Altai Republic and the Altai region. They mainly live in villages and hamlets and are engaged in traditional economics - cattle breeding, hunting, farming. A lot of tourists have been coming to the Altai Mountains lately.
The Altai people believe in spirits, consider all natural things alive, including even stones, and take from nature exactly as much as they need. According to Altai mythology, the world is ruled by good and evil spirits, commanded by two deities: the light world creator Ulgen and the dark underground lord Erlik.
In remote Altai villages and hamlets live shamans (kama) - people who know magic and can communicate with spirits. Kama go down to the underworld, to the lord Erlik, to bring back the soul of a sick man, and they are also able to drive away evil spirits from people. Legend has it that they can transform into animals and natural objects. People come to them to know their future and ask for advice on the best course of action. The Kama gift is not hereditary but reveals itself at an early age.
The cuisine of the Altai peoples consists mainly of meat of animals, game, fish and dairy products. The lack of spices is a peculiarity of this cuisine. Some dishes are considered sacred by the Altai people, such as talcan. This is a coarse-milled flour made from roasted barley. After frying the grains are sifted, and ground to flour. Talcan is given to children to make them grow up healthy and strong, it is used to make porridges and soups, they drink tea with it. Altai tea is different from that drunk in Central Russia. It is richer, and cream and salt are often added to it.

Indian delegation is departing to discover Moscow and the mountanous Altai territory in the framework of the "Hello, Russia!" program
On 17 July, a delegation of young Russian compatriots permanently residing in India has started the educational trip to Moscow and the Atlai territory of the Russian Siberia. The series of trips to Russia are organized by the Russian House (Rossotrudnichestvo Federal Agency) for Russian compatriots of 14 to 19 years of age living in different countries of the world. The project aims to introduce teenagers to diverse Russian natural and historical attractions, immerse them into the rich Russian culture and create a possibility of building international ties.
This year, 3 children from the Bengaluru, Kolkata and Kozhikode and 1 accompanying adult have been selected to represent India and interact with other teams from different countries: Australia, Belarus, Germany, Israel, Netherlands, Kazakhstan, Uganda, Spain, China, Serbia and France.
The Altai territory hosts the "Hello, Russia!" program the first time. The mountainous Altai is a true gem of Siberia. The Altai Mountains are located in the very heart of Russia — near the border with Kazakhstan, Mongolia, and China. They are often called “Russian Tibet”. The Indian delegation will cover Moscow and the Altai in the next 10 days.

Проект призван познакомить подростков с разнообразными природными и историческими достопримечательностями России, погрузить их в богатую русскую культуру и создать возможность для налаживания международных связей.

As the three lucky Indian schoolchildren of Russian origin - Levon Thangjam, Aryan Artur Kol and Reehaan Haris Kunnummal arrived in Russia, they have already visited many Moscow's historical and cultural attractions and leaned about how the urban system of Moscow is made to be sustainable.
On 19 July the delegates have reached the capital of the Altai Territory - Barnaul, a major industrial center of Western Siberia. Here, they learned about the cheese production and are set to meet the representatives of the Government of the Altai Territory.
Russian compatriots living in different countries of the world take part in the trip, and our delegates have the opportunity to make friends with residents of Australia, Belarus, Israel, France, Uganda, Netherlands, Serbia, Germany, Kazakhstan and Spain.

🧳 Journey through the program "Hello Russia!" continues in the Altai Territory.
📌 On July 20, young Russian compatriots met with representatives of government agencies and universities in the region. 💬 The children were presented with the educational potential of the Altai Territory, told about the scientific and educational base of the university. 🔼 Later, at the interregional exhibition "Siberia", the participants got acquainted with samples of original artistic creativity from 713 professional artists and art historians from 11 regions of the Siberian Federal District.
➡️ At the end of the day, the children visited local sports facilities. The project participants arrived at the Ob river rowing canal to the “Sports School of the Olympic Reserve for rowing in kayaking and canoe named after Konstantin Kostenko”, where they were able to ride on water transport and even swim in the Siberian river Ob.

📌 20 июля в зале ученого совета Алтайского государственного университета юные соотечественники встретились с представителями госорганов и вузов региона.
💬 Ребятам презентовали образовательный потенциал Алтайского края, рассказали о научно-образовательной базе университета.
🔼 Позже на Межрегиональной выставке «Сибирь» участники познакомились с образцами оригинального художественного творчества от 713 профессиональных художников и искусствоведов из 11 регионов Сибирского федерального округа.
➡️ В завершении дня ребята посетили местные спортивные объекты. Участники проекта приехали на гребной канал КГБУ ДО «Спортивная школа олимпийского резерва по гребле на байдарках и каноэ имени Константина Костенко», где смогли прокатиться на водном транспорте и даже искупаться в сибирской реке Обь.
