📍City of shining skies - what is it? This is what the capital of the Polar Region - Murmansk iscalled.
📍We tell you more about it! It is particularly recommended to come here in winter - because of the northern lights. Among the sights worth seeing is the monument "Alyosha" (affectionately referred to by locals), dedicated to the liberators of the Polar region from the Nazis. The warrior stands with his back to the city, as if covering it with himself. He is protecting it from the enemies. There is an observation platform near the monument. It offers a picturesque view of the city and the Kola
Bay.
📍Don't forget to see the trademark of Murmansk - icebreaker "Lenin", which in the XX century became the first nuclear-powered icebreaker. You can even climb aboard and see the
exposition!
📍Much attention should be paid to the outskirts of the city. For example, the village of Teriberka. Here you can go for a walk and see the whales, ride reindeer sleds and snowmobiles in winter, visit the beach with the "dinosaur eggs"-stones and satisfate yourself with local cuisine rich in
seafood. Tourists highlight the incredibly picturesque nature.
📍Near Teriberka there is a real graveyard of ships! The remains of sea vessels - from small fishing boats to huge boards - is a really breathtaking sight. Be sure to examine the Kanozero Petroglyphs - rock carvings of the IV-ll millennium BC. Since 2008 in the village of Umba in the south of the Kola Peninsula there is a museum "Petroglyphs
of Kanozero". You can see the exhibits there or go on an excursion to the islands.

📍However, this place still remains quiet and peaceful, despite everything that is happening around it. Every wall of this architectural ensemble is steeped in history. Thanks to its almost pristine condition, the Novodevichy Convent is protected by UNESCO and declared a heritage of all mankind.

📌Valentin A. Serov is one of the great masters of Russian painting. Today marks the 160th
anniversary of his birth. Young Valentin's potential was noticed early.

📌Little Serov was given to study with the German engraver Karl Koepping. And already at the age of nine the boy was highly appreciated by the sculptor Mark M. Antokolsky, who advised to hire a teacher from Russian artists. It was Ilya
Repin himself.

📌Recognition Valentin A. found during the exhibition of the Association of Peredvizhniki in 1888. There he presented the now well-known "Girl with Peaches" and "Sunlit girl". The latter portrait he considered the most significant.

📌Serov remembered the picturesque manner and a mixture of genres. In 1892, Valentin A. ordered a painting "Emperor Alexander III with his family". In 1896, he was
even invited to the coronation of Nicholas II. Thus, his collection was enriched with a watercolor
"The Anointing of the Emperor". Then he continued to paint pictures for the imperial court.

📌At the end of the XIX century he illustrated the fables of Ivan A. Krylov. And after the death of
Pavel M. Tretyakov, Valentin A. became a member of the Council of the Tretyakov Gallery .

📌From 1898 to 1909 he taught at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture.

📌Valentin A. Serov died as a result of a heart attack in 1911.
Some of the artist's most famous paintings are in our selection.
