UrFU Celebrated the Shrovetide Festivities
International students became familiar with russian traditions of Farewell to Winter
Last week, the amazing festivity of Shrovetide was celebrated at Ural Federal University with folk songs, dances and traditional competitions as tag-of-war. International students led a huge Shrovetide round dance with life-size teddy bears. According to tradition, the guests were treated to pancakes with various fillings: sour cream, jams, condensed milk.
Students from all around the globe (Arab world, Asia, Africa, Latin America) in russian folk costumes organized traditional games “Rastyaapa" and "Anyuta, I'm here".
The students learned about the history of Shrovetide. It is a day of farewell to winter and welcoming the long-awaited spring.
"One of our goals at UrFU is to learn the Russian language and explore the rich Russian culture. Today we are happy to participate in the most bright Russian tradition celebrated all over Russia for a whole week", - says Mohammad from Syria.
The artistic group "Marusya International" entertained the guests with funny folk dances. In addition, all international students joined the creative workshop and make the sun, which is one of the symbols of the festival.
