❗️ On September 8, Russia observes the Day of Military Glory – the Day of the Battle of Borodino, the main battle of the 1812 Patriotic War. This was a battle whereby Russian troops under the command of Field Marshal Mikhail Golenishchev-Kutuzov were confronted by an army led by French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, which invaded Russia.

🔹 The Battle of Borodino is considered to be the bloodiest one-day battle in history. About 300,000 Russian warriors, French Army soldiers and Napoleon’s allied troops from all over Europe took part in the battle, in which about one third of the participants perished. The battle took place near Mozhaisk, 124 km away from Moscow.

🔹 The Battle of Borodino became a turning point in the history of the 1812 Patriotic War. It was won by the Russian troops whereas Napoleon I who was hitherto considered invincible was ousted from the Russian Empire.
