I wonder how many of Russia's nukes and their delivery vehicles actually work or are even real? If the state of their armor, rifle, and uniform stockpiles is anything to go by, then I think less than half of Russia's nuclear arsenal is functional. The Ukraine conflict has demonstrated that Russia's military is riddled with corruption, which has led to actual materials on hand not matching the numbers on the ledgers sent to Moscow, and of the materials in existence, large portions were in an extremely poor state or built with inferior materials. Reactive armor for tanks being made of cardboard is just one of hundreds of examples of what I mean.

According to court filings, it appears that WaPo reporter Hannah Natanson lied to FBI agents about her devices and was directly soliciting classified intelligence reports regarding Venezuela from DOW contractor Perez-Lugones.

Based on this information, I think Natanson will be charged in the near future.

The trial of Asif Merchant began today.

Merchant's scheme to assassinate U.S. politicians and officials was one of at least four assassination plots against President Trump in 2024.

Two of those plots were haphazardly and unprofessionally dreamed up by mentally deranged individuals—and they very nearly succeeded. (Crooks and Routh)

The other two schemes were designed by professionals; the plans were far more sophisticated, had substantial funding, better equipment, and were directed from Tehran. They were both stopped by the FBI. (Merchant and Shakeri)

This is the ending of a 47 year war, not the beginning of a new one.

The weakness of the Carter Era oriented Western nations toward decades of despotic, cruel authoritarianism and theocracy spreading throughout the Middle East. The collapse of the USSR enhanced these regimes' influence and power, as Soviet weapons flooded in and criminal organizations formed business syndicates with the regimes. Russia's thugocracy armed them and allied with them. The rise of China further enriched these regimes, since that authoritarian state needed their oil to fuel its industrialization.

Decades of appeasement by Western administrations allowed these nexuses to form and kept the world driving toward either a pivotal moment of confrontation or a century of miasmic retreat: the corrosion of ideals, the degradation of liberty, and the dimming of the light that the West had lit and carried for the world.

The courage of the Trump Era shattered this nexus, reoriented the West, and forced the confrontation that had been so long in coming. Now the regimes are dead or dying; Russia stands exposed as a dog with more bark than bite—war-weary, economically anemic, and with far fewer friends than ever before. China is oil-starved, and its global influence is in retreat.

The retreat of the West is now a charge.
The ideals of the West are reaffirmed.
The liberation of millions has arrived.
The light of the West burns bright.

Asif Merchant is a Pakistan-born man who works for Iranian intelligence. In the Spring of 2024, on behalf of Iran, he traveled to the U.S. to hire individuals to participate in a three-act plot: 1) steal documents from a targeted person, 2) orchestrate a protest, and 3) assassinate U.S. politicians and government officials. In recorded conversations that included Merchant the names of three 2024 Presidential Candidates were brought up as potential targets: South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, President Joseph R. Biden, and President Donald J. Trump.

U.S. intel and the FBI were on to Merchant very early in the game, tracking his movements from Pakistan to Iran, then back to Pakistan before flying to Istanbul, Turkey, and finally to Houston, Texas. The FBI was able to get a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant for Merchant, they intercepted him in Houston when he arrived on April 13, 2024, and conducted an interview but let him go. This has been the subject of some scrutiny and criticism. (Grrr, how could they be so stupid?!?! /s). But the thing is…

They knew where he was going and who he was going to meet.

Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, a naturalized U.S. citizen from Sierra Leone, served 6 years in the Virginia National Guard. But after listening to lectures by Anwar Al-Awlaki, became radicalized and decided not to re-enlist. Instead, he began supporting ISIS/ISIL.

In 2016 he was arrested on terrorism charges. He accepted a plea agreement to those charges and was sentenced to 11 years in prison.
At sentencing, his counsel told the judge,

"Mr. Jalloh is not radicalized. To the extent that he was, it was very superficial. He has renounced his affiliation with ISIS."

Today, fresh out of prison, Mohamed Bailor Jalloh went to Old Dominion University and gunned down an ROTC instructor.

In 2024, the IRGC promised Farhad Shakeri $1.5 million to assassinate Iranian-American journalist Masih Alinejad. Although Shakeri resides in Iran, he served time in New York’s state prison system during the 1990s and 2000s for kidnapping and robbery. While incarcerated, he built an extensive network of criminal contacts that authorities call the “Shakeri Network.” At least some members of this network were based in New York City, where Ms. Alinejad resides.

The IRGC, working through Shakeri, intended to use this network to conduct operations inside the United States—including targeted surveillance and multiple assassinations of American citizens.

One such plot targeted President Trump in October 2024.

Something approximating this scenario is unfolding right now on the political Right.

There is a fire, ignited by malign forces, that takes the shape of Wokeness, bigotry, isolationism, anti-institutionalism, and antisemitism. It carries qualities of both Marxism and Fascism and is rooted in foreign influence as much as outright foolishness.

Its champions and mouthpieces are well established media figures and former government officials. People who rode Trump’s coattails and ingratiated themselves with MAGA through years of emotional monologues, memetic content, and careful manipulation of their audiences.

Many people are sounding the alarm, many have been for years, yet the audience—thanks to years of agitprop and counter-programming—perceives the warnings as a joke. They see the people shouting “Fire!” as clowns on a stage.

It is a profoundly dangerous situation for the “audience,” the “clowns,” and—most concerningly—for our country.
