I shall continue my little challenge collage for burnout resistence - photos of what I liked last week.
1. White nights in Saint-Pete
2. A quiant little school in an old mansion
3. A room for introverts
4. Watching my intern teach instead of me and do a great job!

Hello, amazing new people!
I am Yulia, and this is my blog about random stuff, no false advertising here.
I talk about #methodology in general, different tricks, teaching teens, #CPD, conferences (#conference) and whatnot (#random_musings) . I love psychology and fight burnout with all my considerable might (#burnout_resistance). Here you also might stumble upon some ready-made materials (#materials), but it’s not the purpose of my blog. The first idea for my blog was just for word vomit (#random_musings and #rants) actually.
Why should you listen to me, you might ask?
Well, first of all, I am very proud to call myself relatively clever. My certifications might help me prove that claim as us, teachers, often consider them our greatest accomplishments. I am with you here, guys.
So here is my list: TKT (3 modules), CAE (pass A), CELTA (pass A), IH YLT (International House – Young Learners and Teenagers Teaching Certificate), CPE (Pass A) and lots of other Russian certificates (here is a post about it https://t.iss.one/random_musing_s/145)
Care to share what your accomplishments are? Let’s wow each other.

Так что вот мой список: TKT (3 модуля), CAE (pass A), CELTA (pass A), IH YLT (International House – Young Learners and Teenagers Teaching Certificate), CPE (Pass A) и куча сертификатов наших, родных, русских (можно почитать тут https://t.iss.one/random_musing_s/145 и по тегу #CPD ).
А у вас как с достижениями? Поделитесь, мы вместе порадуемся.

UPD: I've counted the number of hours and that is... drum roll... 651 freaking hours in the last 3 years!!! And I am not including the time it took to prep for CPE and the re-qualification thing I had to do to work at school, and DELTA prep... The less said…

What’s a good teacher?
Every once in a while, I ask my students this question. The answer differs depending on the group and age, but there are some common denominators. I’ve compiled them into a short description of a good teacher and had AI generate some pictures which you can see above.
Can you guess some adjectives they used? What’s a good teacher for you?

If you are not willing to answer here, here is a link to a word cloud. Let's make our definition of a good teacher together.
Some questions to help you:
What was/is your favourite teacher like?
What kind of people do you look up to?
What do you envision yourself as a teacher when you will have reached all your CPD goals?
https://ahaslides.com/ZCC0B
If we make one, we could see how we match with our students 😊

You want your boss to think you are organizing a cult? But even after all your attempts, they still consider you a responsible and highly-qualified teacher?
Well, sucks to be you... But don't you worry, I've got a solution! Play this game with your students...
... and make everyone question your sanity😅
I actually played it with my 8th graders today. Well, it was really fun! And they definitely enjoyed it! Apparently, the combination of movement and repetition helps the participants learn the target language faster.
The main idea is that students need to strike different poses while repating some words so that they remember the vocab better. First, one student says the phrases and does the poses. Others copy the poses. Then, they repeat the target language with the poses. I am not very sure this is the actual way it is supposed to be played though as my students adapted the game very fast.
Afterwards I heard them repeating the phrases outside of class. However, I am not completely sold on the value of playing it in regards to memorizing vocab. It remains to be seen.
What's more, I am not sure about some of the collocations offered in the game.
Conclusion: can be played online (just PM your students the card) and offline, good for functional language. But ask your students first as it is not for self-conscious people.
Forewarning: a passing witness might think you are summoning a devil or just simply have gone off the rails. Or, as mentioned above, organizing a cult.
NB! Pre-teach the vocab! Or at least drill the pronunciation!

With this collage I am summoning all the Harry Potter nerds ! Wake up from your long slumber, comrades!
So I've got a little hair-brained idea to analyse the lessons in Harry Potter movies and evaluate them. I have not the foggiest as to how to teach Transfiguration(alas, I am not a witch... well, debatable) , so I will be judging the lesson as if these amazing characters are teaching English.
What do you think? Should I go for it?
Ok, this part is not up for debate, I am doing it either way. But you can help me if you wish...

Good evening, dearest!
Thank you so much for taking part in the poll above!💜 💜 💜
I am gonna tackle the HP videos on Monday though as I try to avoid doing any work at the weekend😏 😏 😏
But I've got a little present for you. Here is my weekend playlist. Both songs in my stories today are included.
Maybe you'll find something up your alley?

Btw, the video is from my vocal class. I've been learning to sing since August! And, finally, it shows! Sorry for subjecting you to my special band of vocals 😅

Here are the final poll results! I am not surprised that Professor Lupin won hands down. Neither am I surprised that nobody voted for Professor Lockhart. I am a firm believer that casting in this case left much to be desired though Kenneth Branagh played his role really well.
I'd been racking my brain regarding the promised video as I didn’t like Zoom because my face was too small (lol), whereas MTS Link cut the quality so much that both the video and myself were literally puzzle pieces… or pixel pieces?
So, I decided to go the old school way! You’ll see the result below.
Please do share your opinion, in this case it’s tremendously important. Love you!🩷 ❤️ 💜

❓❓❓ What are questions? You know what questions are, don’t you? I wonder if you also know all the ways of practicing them in fun ways... ❓❓❓
Well, even if you know all of them, I am still going to remind you about some.
⭐️ Interview Level 1️⃣
Prepare a list of questions and have the students answer them in pairs. Make some simple yet relevant questions for lower level students. Or some strange and interesting questions for higher level students. Or both. Make sure they keep track of their partner’s answers to report back to you/class later.
⭐️ Interview Level 2️⃣ (based on facts)
Say, your topic is inventions. Give your students some information about inventions, have them read it. Then give them time to prepare an interview role-play with one student being an inventor, the other – a journalist. Don’t forget to tell them what kinds of questions they’ve got to use, how many from each person and, of course, how long the dialogue should be.
Make sure to let them know they can interview anybody in the story, even a ghost or an animal (for instance, my students interviewed a stolen chick – if you want to know the full story, let me know).
⭐️ Interview Level 3️⃣ (based on imagination)
Have the students invent a topic. You could use some flash-cards (I use a game called Story inherited from a lovely colleague – hey, Yulia!) to give them some ideas. Follow the same procedure as above.
You might wonder why it is level 3. Well, it’s a tad bit simpler for you, but might be a lot more difficult for them as they need to make the story from scratch.
⭐️ Interview Level 4️⃣ (based on research)
Give your students a whole list of questions that might fit some kind of vocation. Have them transform the questions into the type or types you wish them to practice. Then make them do research. It’s a whole project!
After that, your students can interview a «real» person, as well as learn something new. Maybe even get inspired by someone. Win-win all around.
I’ve done all of the above mentioned activities with my B2 level students. I can rest assured that now they can use indirect and tag questions quite well.
In the comments you will find some beautiful (I am not humble in the least) question sets for the last activity. Enjoy!
If you want to find out more details about how to organize the Level 4 interview, react with some kind of emoji to this post.
Thanks for reading!

The photos from Trendy St.Pete are here!
Can you imagine I was worried I wouldn’t have any? The thing is I didn’t even notice the photographer… I wish I could say that the reason for my absent-mindedness was that I was extremely focused on my talk, but… mostly I was too terrified to pay attention to the nice lady taking pictures.

Here I am, once again with stickers. These little buggers seem to be a recurring theme in my little blog 😅
The little trick described in the video can be used both online and offline.
Special thanks to my amazing operator - my intern Irina 💜
You can find the worksheet we used with my B2 group in the comments😍
Также в комментариях можно найти видео примерно такого же содержания, но короче, и на русском☺️
