Teachers' StandUp 07.06 Reflections
We did it! Again, yes, but that doesn’t diminish the accomplishment in the slightest.
It was an amazing evening, we talked, laughed, spilled lemonade down our dresses (well, that was just me) and enjoyed ourselves in a very warm, cozy atmosphere.
It was the highlight of my year as I was the one to organize it all, as well as host it. Was it a challenge? Indeed. But I do thrive when challenged.
But why was it difficult, might you ask. Here is the answer:
1️⃣ Finding the right place. I visited 4 different venues before I finally settled on the one I liked best.
2️⃣ Finding the right people. The speakers’ list changed 3 times! Some colleagues agreed to join the event and then dropped out for various very important reasons (no sarcasm at all here, the reasons were legit). I did have to scramble in a mad dash to find the people who performed yesterday, but it was all worth it!
3️⃣ Finding the audience or the bane of my existence – marketing. This time I was pretty lazy so we had about 20 people, speakers included. Do I regret it? Not much. I had a chance to talk with everybody, which is a huge plus in my book.
Here is my sincerest thanks to the amazing speakers who graced me and the event with their presence yesterday.
Alena @alena_cpe
Yulia @svet_yulia_elt
Andrey @AAAAAAndy
Kostya @yoteach
Malika @Hton_nesusvetnaya
Kate @franglais_navesele
By the way, would you like to play the game we had for warm-up?
Yes – 🔥
Not really – 💅
Yours,
Yulia❤️
P.S. The next Teachers' Standup will be in September, probably closer to the end of it. Let me know if you want me to PM you the deets when the time comes - @julie_bond_365 or put a + in the comments,

Banana man or woman?
Ребят было пятеро, поэтому каждому досталась своя: policeman, the criminal, the shop owner, a witness and of course, the Banana(wo)man!
Just a piece of the role-play that just has to be quoted:
Policeman: Not the sharpest tool in the shed, are you?
Silence…
Criminal: I am a 40-year-old woman dressed up as a Minion, do you think I am the smartest person on the planet? No, I am not!

The policeman is exasperated and tired, he thinks the whole situation is ridiculous.
The criminal was hungry and in a hurry, and now is disappointed.
The stall owner was shocked, but now is angry and a little bit confused.
The witness was and still is shocked and confused.
The Banana(wo)man was really hot and tired, now irritated.
A woman in a minion costume stole 6 bananas from a banana fair stall. The reason – she forgot to get bananas for her child’s party and didn’t have time to get her wallet. The brave person in a Banana costume saw the horrible misdeed and ran after the woman, threw a shoe at her and managed to get the six bananas back. The petrified witness (who is a banana critic, btw) watched the whole ordeal, the stall owner was too shocked to do anything as well.
The verdict: the criminal should be reprimanded in the form of tutting and shaking the pointer finger in her face.

Simply Unstoppable the Conference - done (for me)
The vibe of being an absolute force of nature - definitely NOT.
I loved all the people there, the organizers (I had the honour of also being the host of one of the tracks today as well as moderating some of the speakers), the audience, the other speakers' insightful talks!
My main insight after every single conference is very simple but true - English teachers are amazing! I am ecstatic to be a part of this community😍

I am also happy to share the recording of my talk yesterday, the topic was: Using AI in a Traditional Classroom.
It includes not only what to do with AI, but the methodological perspective and scientific backing as well.
https://youtu.be/VSLWFkXSOP0?si=dtkDUxDDtgTGwb6k
You can find all the other recordings in the same channel. If I were you, I'd watch the last 3 talks as well, starting from Dr. Richard Harrison 💜

I came looking for copper but found gold...
So here was I, looking for some articles for my teens so that they could discuss them and do some critical thinking development work deciding which part of the article was a fact (and how to check it) and which - an opinion.
I did find some reputable articles, but what I also found was a whole book of them (with tasks!😍 ).
I've picked 4 of them to read and talk about:
➡️ The man who swapped lives
➡️ What your choice of coffee says about you (apparently, I am a lively extrovert with an optimistic look on life )
➡️ Gameboys and girls stay in to play
➡️ Villagers strike it rich
Even though the book is quite old, most articles are still relevant.
Enjoy!⬇️
Yours,
Yulia❤️

Sketchy activities
