Suggest me a book published over 15 years ago that’s not a clsssic.
I love seeing recommendations on here but a lot of the titles are repeated again and again (for good reason!) I would love to hear about some books I am not familiar with and that I don’t hear about daily.

Middle Grade/YA Pacific Islander authors?
Hello! I’m a librarian working at a middle school library and I’ve encountered a bit of an issue. We have a pretty big PI student population, but no matter how hard we try, we cant seem to find many age-appropriate books that represent their identities.
We have Dragonfruit by ~~Malia Mattoch McManus~~ Makiia Lucier and Mortal Fire by Elizabeth Knox, but most of what I find is either Native Hawaiian or not appropriate for our students. I’m hoping someone here might have some other books that slipped under the radar.
Length and genre are no issue, they just need to be appropriate for children ages 11-14 or so. Any help is appreciated, thank you so much!!

Any recs? More Women Writers
I’ve been on a women writers kick this month in honor of Women's History Month. Just finished these and would love some recommendations for what to read next to wrap up the month! 👀
Picnic at Hanging Rock by Joan Lindsay
My Antonia by Willa Cather
Their Eye Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton
The Time of Man by Elizabeth Madox Roberts
Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë
I’m especially drawn to anything atmospheric, a little gothic, but open to everything!

suggest me a book about the colonized becoming colonizers.
ive been interested in this concept for awhile, especially in relation to European colonization of the Americas as well as later in Africa. for example, how newly independent nation states will continue the oppression of indigenous people, etc. i was just wondering if there were any nonfiction books out there about this concept!

I've been in a reading slump for nearly two years!
I feel like I haven't been actively reading for a long time and I really miss when I always seemed to find something that interested me, but I can't think of anything now!! I've always loved mystery, or something thrilling and action-packed that really keeps you hooked and make you want to read it in one sitting. Something unique or "out-there" that leaves me with many thoughts after reading is good too, and if there's something that combines all of that, that's great too!!

Books for a younger teenager th
I am not a young teenager, but i realize that my tastes are so. If you go to the YA section of like half price books, you see books like diary of a wimpy kid (which aren't YA and i want something more mature)
The books are either that or books like A Good Girls' Guide to Murder, one of us is Lying, to all the boys, etc which i suspect are good but im not quite ready for such books yet.
I have started to read Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine, (i had posted this question here before back when i had just started the book) and i liked it but what really got me was when she mentioned she>!got invited to a party but the party was just a ruse so the host could sell sex toys.!<I don't wanna seem prudish, i simply don't wanna read about that. i just wanna 100% avoid those themes
Some books I have read:
Front Desk by Kelly Yang (masterpiece, but the book is for 12 year olds)
Gordon Korman's classics like Restart/Ungifted/Supergifted/The Unteachables/Schooled (very funny and entertaining, but again, they're for kids)
Counting by 7s (this one actually hit the spot really well)
Fish In A Tree (same as front desk)
my favorite genre is realistic fiction/slice of life. I want a story that takes place in modern times and preferably has no sexy stuff nor swearing. I have started to read Japanese novels like Convenience Store Woman, which I'm loving so far.
For a reference point, one of my favorite shows is Young Sheldon (yes it's corny asf but it's still good)

Help me get a friend into reading!
Currently not a reader do I’m hoping to help change that! They enjoy travel (culture, food, hiking, meeting new people), plants/gardening, and baking. They like TV shows with romance of “everyday” people, families, light hearted comedy, and mild suspense. No horror, violence, smut, sci-fi, or fantasy. If romance probably male female romance so they would personally relate to it. Doesn’t need to have all that just trying to give as many factors as I can think of. Any ideas?

Farm/country setting?
Hello,
Please suggest a book which is set in a country setting. I would like the setting itself to be cozy like in a farm, doing mundane everyday things but it doesn’t have to be a cozy book.
Thank you

The Books That Took Me Apart and Rebuilt Me
I’ve always felt like some books don’t just tell stories they slowly take you apart and rebuild you into someone you don’t even recognize anymore
For me it was never the trendy reads it was the classics that left the deepest marks
Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky didn’t feel like a book it felt like being locked inside a restless mind it made me question my own morality the way we justify things to ourselves and how guilt is something you can never really escape
Notes from Underground shook me in a different way it made me confront the uglier parts of being human the overthinking the contradictions the quiet self destruction we don’t talk about
The Brothers Karamazov changed how I see faith doubt and human relationships it made everything feel heavier but also more meaningful like every emotion carries a weight we often ignore
Anna Karenina made me understand how people are never just right or wrong everyone is just… human flawed emotional impulsive and painfully real
And then there were other classics that quietly shaped me
The Stranger by Camus made me sit with the idea that life doesn’t always have meaning and maybe that’s exactly what makes it honest
1984 made me more aware of the world around me how easily truth can be shaped and how fragile freedom really is
The Picture of Dorian Gray made me think about vanity desire and the consequences of living only for pleasure
What’s strange is none of these books changed me overnight but somewhere along the way they rewired how I think how I see people how I understand myself
Sometimes I feel like I was simpler before I read them and maybe a little lighter too
What are the classics that changed you like this

I told my supervisor I like to read and she volunteered me to run a bi-weekly book club. I work with teen girls who have mental/behavioral health issues. I’m trying to think of books I read in middle school/high school that made a difference in my life/how I saw the world. I would love suggestions!

Suggest me a short novel
My goal this year is to read 26 books in 2026. I love reading but it’s difficult due to my dyslexia so I stopped reading for a few years. Now I want to get back into it. I’ve only read 2 books so far which are the first 2 books in the poppy war series and I love them so far. I want to squeeze in some shorter novels though so I can get back on track.
I mainly like fantasy, romance, and adventure books but I’m open to all suggestions.

Hey there! I just finished "I Have No Mouth, And I Must Scream"
Now that I have your attention, hello! Thanks to the latest episode of the online indie series "The Amazing Digital Circus" I was inspired to finally read "I Have No Mouth, And I Must Scream" by Harlan Ellison. Anyone have any good book recommendations in the same vein as this amazing short story? Preferably with the same or higher levels of disturbing, grotesque imagery. Mainly because I have an intense fascination with the horror genre and want to see what kind of nightmarish creations people can come up with! I wouldn't mind any older books, but I would like to see if any newer works can compare.

Suggest me books that are as good as Wilkie Collins, but written in the past ... 25ish years.
Not hard and firm on the 25 years, could be up to 50.
Basically, I've read every book by Collins and I just can't get enough of him. A painstakingly detailed plot, with twists and turns along the way and an ending you don't see coming, lots of characters that you grow to love and many you grow to hate, funny, sad, reflective in parts ... all the good stuff.
But I'm kind of sick of the stuffy Victorian aspect of the books - I could do without reading any more treatises on succession of property and guardianship, lol. So I am not looking for writers contemporary to Collins that I might like.
I am very, very hard on modern mysteries for the most part and try and fail with a lot of them- I've already read Gone Girl and most of the other noir thrillers that grew up around it. They're okay, I didn't hate them.
Alas, I need something more modern, whattya got?

I’m more than likely deploying to the Middle East soon - I need a book(s)!
I don’t have any hate in my heart for Iran, and I don’t have any faith our leadership cares about us. I need a book to read to help my mind settle down. I think this war is of our own doing and is folly for everyone involved. I feel trapped. I’m not allowed to speak up. My family wouldn’t understand my feelings. I feel I am slowly waiting out eventual doom.
A book won’t change any of that but maybe it can help reframe my mind.

Looking for a book that makes me fall in love with life
I want a suggestion of a book which makes me enjoy my life, romanticise it, and just enjoy every bit of it (like those family trips to the beach that we take, that kind of feeling), but not just for the moment while reading the book something that gives a sunshine vibe and happiness to continue living that way
I don’t necessarily want something overly preachy or self-help heavy. Fiction or non-fiction is fine, as long as it has that “life feels beautiful again” kind of effect.
thanks in advance

Book recommendations for someone going through challenging times?
I'm not asking for self help books.
The last I remember reading books for fun was in 7th standard. Chicken soup for teenage soul, Rotten school, the whole selection of Nancy drew series, and endless same-old lovestories by Indian authors.
In the last 10 years I've bought 3 books - To kill a mockingbird, The da vinci code and The Metamorphosis. Didn't even turn a single page till today when I chose the slimmest of them all - The Metamorphosis. And honestly, within 30 minutes of reading it, I was feeling far worse. Good thing books still can affect my mood.
So, I'm seeking recommendation for feel good or highly enticing books that keeps me away from my phone for a 2-3 days and preserves my sanity, or whatever is left of it.
Also, no agatha christie please.

I am going to begin detox from opioids tomorrow and need a good book to keep my mind occupied
Hi all! I have a rough week ahead of me and would like some recommendations for novels that feel transformative. I'd like a story where the main character battles internal struggles that change them for the better. It does not need to be about addiction, it could be mental illness or something else entirely. Usually, I enjoy a challenge but this week I need something easier. The subject can be complex but the writing needs to be digestible.
Alternatively, I'd also appreciate suggestions on a page-turner. Something fun to read. Could be a thriller, could be something heartwarming, really just anything that will keep my mind off of feeling awful. TIA 😊
