They don't care about children being raped, they just want to use it as a cudgel.

why does the older generation expect disabled young people to destroy our bodies maintaining a society that has failed us since birth?

i keep seeing older people say young people should “learn a trade” because society needs plumbers, electricians, builders, roofers, mechanics, etc. okay, but why is that need automatically being placed on young people as a moral obligation, including disabled young people whose bodies and brains may not even be capable of sustaining that work?

why are we being called lazy, entitled, soft, or useless because we don’t wanna destroy our backs fixing ur houses and toilets? if this labor is so essential, why is the conversation never about making it safer, more accessible, better paid, and actually worth the physical cost? why is it always about shaming an unwilling young person into doing it?

being young does not automatically mean being healthy. disabled people exist at every age. chronic pain exists. autism, ADHD, sensory issues, executive dysfunction, trauma, limited stamina, and bodies that require days to recover from one long shift all exist. some of us are not secretly tradespeople who just haven’t been yelled at enough yet 😭

and honestly, the generation being begged to supply all this labor is also the generation that has watched nearly every promise attached to work collapse. housing is unaffordable. healthcare can financially ruin u. education means debt. wages don’t keep up with basic survival. jobs demand multiple roles from one person and still treat them as disposable. retirement barely feels real. so what exactly are we supposed to believe we’re sacrificing our bodies for?

older generations were at least sold the idea that destroying urself at work might eventually buy a home, support a family, provide healthcare, or create some stability. that deal was never equally available to everybody, but now young people are being offered even less and still lectured for not being grateful enough to participate.

u cannot neglect a generation, price us out of adulthood, dismiss our disabilities, give us no meaningful safety net, and then act shocked that we don’t feel some sacred responsibility to sacrifice ourselves maintaining the same society that did all of that to us.

and there’s something deeply entitled about saying, “society needs somebody to fix my toilet, therefore you need to train for it.” society needing certain work completed does not mean every random young person is individually obligated to reshape their body, brain, and entire life around providing that service for u. specialization exists for a reason. maybe learn how to fix ur own toilet, babe 🫤

some of us are artists. some of us are writers, singers, organizers, caregivers, thinkers, clerks, friends, or people simply trying to survive inside bodies that already hurt. our value is not determined by how efficiently this country can extract labor from us.

if society wants young people to care about sustaining it, maybe society should’ve given us something worth sustaining.
