Speakers for DJ & outdoor deck?

Hello

In the process of building a new deck 1000 sq ft and wanted to see are there speakers where I can use for a DJ to tap into when needed and also use for general music playing on the outdoor deck?

Is it worth putting some JBL pro DJ speakers vs some outdoor rated speakers?

How can I have it where a DJ can bring a mixer and tap into my system. What connection would I need and amp

Looking for suggestions on speakers and amps setup?

Longshot but...

I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in in mentoring/tutoring me. I have been at it for a short time but picked it up quickly and a fast learner. Overall I got beat matching down and I've started to mess around with stems mashing up different tracks.

Intro to DJing

Hello everyone.

I’ll keep it short and sweet. I’m currently a wedding DJ “in training” which mostly consists of queueing songs and letting them crossfade as the transition. I’ve been doing this for about half a year and I want to start getting into it more as I see it as an opportunity to grow in the music field.

I don’t own a DJ board but I own all the audio equipment necessary other than that like monitors, headphones and a laptop etc.

How to I begin learning and what techniques are crucial as I want to start in the realm of DJing hiphop and pop for the dance part of the wedding and start getting into more creative DJing as I also currently produce music.

Any helpful tips and pointers are very much appreciated. Thank you!

Why is it so hard to get feedback from your friends?

I've uploaded a couple of mixes for the first time that have garnered 1000 *minutes listened on mixcloud in 2 weeks. I know I'm far from the best but based on the zero response I've received from friends ( just randoms) what am I doing wrong?

Are there too many wedding DJs??

I remember just even a couple years ago nobody wanted to be a wedding DJ. It was looked as “uncool” because we are not playing in a bar or nightclub.

Now the secret is out about how much money wedding DJs actually make and people want to hop on that train.

Seen a huge influx of bar, club, party DJs turn into wedding DJs recently and it’s fairly fascinating to watch.

I think a lot of it has to do with the mass shutdowns of Nightclubs and Bars due to the economy, covid, inflation, cost of living, high drink prices and Gen Z not being as social as previous generations. The older generations have started to retire from the party life. All of this made an already competitive industry even more competitive.

There are only so many DJs touring and playing festivals, concerts, and a residency. Those same DJs have been playing at them for over a decade due to name recognition that it’s very complicated for any new DJ to make a living off DJing if they aren’t a wedding DJ.

Wedding DJing is super competitive as well. There are only so many weddings in a given area and if there are 1,000 DJs competing to do 100 weddings lots of people are missing out on business. Data also shows that less people are getting married nowadays.

Technical question on DJing without master Tempo

Hi all, lately ive been trying to mix without Master Tempo (or pitch lock/key lock) turned on, for some reason I find the tracks a bit flat when it is on. I've also done away with camelot wheel indicators on serato, I find I spend most of my time just jumping from 4a to 5a etc and becoming a bit predictable.

Now I've scraped MT and camelot wheel completely, instead im trying to use this method;

I load track B and match bpm to whatever track A is for example if track A is 124 and track B is 126 i slow track B to 124.

I then nudge the pitch fader on track B slightly and slowly up or down (or both) until the music sounds more right (no idea how to explain it but the mix just becomes louder and has more clarity) While im listening for the 'key' or 'pitch' to get better I am also adjusting the jog wheel on track B to bring them back in sync every few seconds just so they dont drift too far apart.

Essentially im trying to do two things at once, listen if the bpm adjustment (and corresponding pitch change) to track B is giving the entire mix more clarity while also trying to keep them in sync every 5 seconds or so

Once I dont think i can improve it anymore I then take the difference and split it so for example if the track B sounds better at 125 i take track A up to 124.5 and track b to 124.5 then mix in. It's usually within 2bpm if it works at all, in some cases it doesnt.

I have no other way to describe it except better or louder..

I have no real idea what I should be looking for and finding it impossible to find any info online. Ive found some stuff on semitones etc but no practical explanations for mixing

Open to any advice on this, currently 5 months in.

How do you actually get useful feedback on your mixes from people you know?

There was a thread recently about how hard it is to get feedback from friends and it really resonated. I put out a mix that I thought was solid, got 78 plays on Mixcloud, and exactly zero comments or feedback from anyone I actually know. A few strangers liked it which is cool, but the people in my circle just don't say anything.мI'm not expecting praise or anything, I just want to know what's working and what isn't so I can improve. But every time I ask directly I get vague responses like "yeah it was good" or they just don't respond at all. I know they're not obligated to listen or critique, but it's frustrating when you're trying to grow.

For those of you who have cracked this, how do you get honest feedback. Do you have a specific person you trust who actually knows what they're listening for. Do you ask specific questions instead of just "what did you think". Or have you just accepted that feedback from friends is rarely useful and you have to learn to trust your own ears and rely on crowd reactions at gigs.

Also curious if anyone has had success with online feedback groups or communities where people actually listen and give constructive criticism. I know this sub isn't for promoting mixes but there must be places where DJs help each other improve.

My YouTube recommendations are filled with these female DJ’s being hailed as gods by way of appearance. Their sets prove over and over just how little they put into what is being played. They put more into their appearances than actually creating meaningful music…… 1/4 notes are not that great….

Headphone Recommendations (coming from rp-dh1250s)

So I have my old dh1200s (sorry subject says 1250s) in storage from way back when. Haven’t used them in a while but I may be in the market for a new pair of headphones.

Any recommendations for something remotely in the class of these in terms of quality and bass response or should I just get some new ear pads and call it a day if they are still functional? Only thing I disliked about them is they used to hurt my head since I wear glasses but beyond that they were great from what I recall.

[PRODUCT RELEASE] ATGR DJ Touch 1 Deluxe: Ready-to-Use MIDI DJ Controller with StemsFX Control also unlocks a "hidden" StemFX in djay Pro

https://preview.redd.it/se65fpi46mog1.jpg?width=3005&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=60d35a23b6c218b498aa5e6896a53b5140285bf0

**TL:DR;**
As an active contributor to the sub, I’ve received permission from the mods to post about my DJ related projects.

The And The Groove Remains Production Team (ATGR), best known for the widely used DJ Conversion Utility and a range of innovative apps for DJs, proudly announces the
**DJ Touch 1 Deluxe**, a fully assembled wireless MIDI controller with a full-color touchscreen designed for DJs and music enthusiasts. Building on the original DJ Touch 1 DIY project, the Deluxe offers a larger screen, expanded memory, and is ready to be flashed out of the box. The goal of the DJ Touch 1 project is to prevent older DJ controllers, especially those lacking features like stems control, from becoming obsolete

**User Feedback and Improvements**
The original DJT1 was well-received, but some users preferred a fully assembled unit, and others encountered difficulties sourcing the specific ESP32 board. In response, the
Deluxe offers a pre-built solution while remaining affordable.

**New Hardware Platform**
The DJ Touch 1 Deluxe features the JC2432W535C 3.5" ESP32 S3 board, offering more memory and a built-in enclosure. Because there is only one model in rotation, purchasing the correct unit on various Chinese marketplaces is straightforward (search term *ESP32 S3 3.5"*).
Firmware is specific to the Deluxe model and is not compatible with the original DJT1.
All specifications and purchase links are included in the free demo package.

**Easy Setup and Flexible Power**
Installing the Stems Plus software on the Deluxe (=flashing the firmware) is even easier using the preconfigured macOS app.

The DJ Touch 1 Deluxe can be powered via USB-C from a computer, power bank, CDJ USB port, or wall adapter, and also supports a standard 3.7V LiPo battery. When connected through USB-C, the battery charges automatically. An on-screen indicator shows the battery level when operating on battery power.

The new **Stems Plus module** allows:

* 2-Stems control on 4 decks on a single screen
* 4-Stems control for 2 decks across two screens
* 4 Stems and StemsFX control for a single deck on screen. The StemFX part only works with software that features it. A [“hidden” StemsFX feature in djay](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrGX1pQ6d8I&t=205s) is unlocked!

For software that doesn’t support StemsFX, those pads can be remapped for other functions.

**Wide Software Compatibility**
The Deluxe comes with MIDI mappings for Serato, Algoriddim djay Pro, Rekordbox, Traktor, and VirtualDJ. Using standard MIDI, it can also control video or lighting software.

Multiple units of both the original DJ Touch 1 and Deluxe can be connected to the same computer, even mixed together, since they share the same MIDI messages and mappings.

**Try Before You Buy**
A [free demo module](https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/34ir5k36iyn7qfqdziji0/ATGR_DJT1_Deluxe_DEMO.zip?rlkey=br904e6bozr7w8yp8n81xt8no&dl=1) is available with a Starter Guide which contains specifications, where to buy links and installation instructions. The demo allows limited stem control (drums on deck 1 and bass on deck 2) but can be upgraded to the full Stems Plus module.

**Connectivity and Future Plans**
The DJ Touch 1 Deluxe uses Bluetooth 5 and works with modern computers, including all Apple ARM-based systems. No additional modules are planned for the Deluxe; the DJ Touch 1 platform remains the preferred development platform. This may change in the future should sufficient demand arise.

**Where to buy**
The DJ Touch 1 Deluxe Stems Plus software costs EU 18,- (approx. US$ 20,-) and is available from the [ATGR Sellfy online store](https://atgr-production-team.sellfy.store/p/atgr-dj-touch-1-deluxe-stems-plus/).

Rate for newish DJ for first NYC wedding?

Posting for a friend who is a newer DJ in NYC, who has played for around 15-20 gigs at bars for $50 an hour. She plays just for the love of it. She’s been asked to do her first wedding and is unsure what to charge. The wedding will be 4 hours at a popular Brooklyn club. Any suggestions on what would be an appropriate rate would be? Thanks in advance!
