Does a Google search give open directory results based on your location?
Been searching open directories for a few months now, but in terms of learning the technical parts of this, I'm a n00b. There have been far too many times where I've found images uncomfortably local to me. I'm talking like blocks away, locations I can walk to. It's freaking me out a little bit. For more context, I have only been searching cat related terms. (Cat Images, My cat, LOLcats, Cat Macros, etc) in my hunt for old memes/funny cat photos.

Looking for HD 2010s Kids Commercials & Bumpers (Food only, NO Toys!) for a custom ErsatzTV kids channel 📺
Hey everyone,I’m building a custom 24/7 kids' TV channel on my Unraid/Plex setup using ErsatzTV for my 3-year-old and my 4-year-old. I want to recreate that classic Saturday morning cartoon vibe with actual commercial breaks, but I’ve run into a massive wall.I’ve found tons of "commercial packs" online, but they are almost all blurry 480p VHS rips from the 90s, and they are packed with loud ads for plastic toys. I am trying to avoid triggering the "gimme that toy" phase for as long as possible!Does anyone have a Google Drive, Mega link, or a curated pack of HD (720p/1080p) commercials from the 2010–2019 era? What I’m looking for:High-Quality Animation: The modern 3D CGI or crisp 2D vector era.Breakfast & Snacks: Froot Loops, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Honey Nut Cheerios, Goldfish, Oreos, Nesquik, Eggo, etc.Network Bumpers: 2010s PBS Kids (Dash & Dot), Cartoon Network "CHECK it" bumpers, or generic "We'll be right back" title cards.STRICTLY NO TOYS. Just food, wholesome snacks, and network filler.I’ve tried scraping YouTube and Vimeo with yt-dlp, but it’s a nightmare of compressed re-uploads and password-protected agency portfolios. If anyone has a curated "modern HD" filler pack, or can point me toward a Discord/tracker that specializes in this specific digital era of ads, you would be a lifesaver. Thanks!

Copyright vs. Illegal content.
Is this stuff safe to download? This seems to be a bit of a perennial question here.I'm going to steer clear here on executables vs. non-executables as that's a tough one and can get very argumentative very quickly. Suffice to say, common sense, online virus scanners and your own antivirus are your friends here. Most importantly: once you download something onto your device pretty much anywhere on the planet considers that it's then "yours" whether the content is legal or not and whether you own copyright to it. The importance of this CANNOT be understated! As with my other PSA's I'm using my govt and their legislation. Most first world govt's will probably be similar but you being knowledgeable is your best solution there. Also it should be noted IANAL and have no legal background. Nothing written here should be considered legal advice.A timely reminder also that most of the ODs posted here are found because they are inherently unsecured. That means that while we may be downloading content from them (legal or not) they would be seen as the hosts and illegal distributors of said content. Now, I think this should be asked to begin - Should you have the file(s) you are downloading?I believe this falls under 2 subsets: pirated content and illegal content.PiratedIn most 1st world countries while it is illegal to download pirated content:Historically, pirated films, music, games and software were imported into Australia. While theillicit importation of these items into Australia continues, developments in digital reproductionand distribution technologies have made it less risky and less expensive for pirates tomanufacture infringing copies of films and other content in Australia, rather than importthem. Often the ‘masters’ for film, music and other content are downloaded fromxiiIntellectual property crime and enforcement in Australiainternational websites. Copyright-infringing material imported into Australia is often verydifficult to identify, because sometimes this material is an illicit factory ‘overrun’, and, asa result, is essentially identical to the authorised item.https://www.aic.gov.au/sites/default/files/2020-05/rpp094.pdfWhile there may be some places that chase you for that downloaded content most govt's or legal distributors aren't going to go after the little guy. Which then leads to - most intellectual property (IP) right holders WILL go after illegal distributors. It is for eg. why in most case involving torrenting you technically may not be pinged for downloading but you will get done for seeding. For most pirated content there are far easier and less questionable (downloading from unsecured servers) methods to get your fave movie/tv show - I have used torrenting and usenet for years with no issues. For local content that isn't dmca protected I simply download using tools like yt-dlp.There is a small caveat here whereby you can "backup" content you already own legally. There is a specific exception in s 47C for making back-up copies of computer programs, and ‘any work or other subject matter held together with the program on the same computer system’. The ALRC is interested in how this exception is operating, and whether it is sufficiently broad. For example, does it allow users to back-up copyright material such as sound recordings, films, images and books that they have legally acquired or licensed and, if not, should this be more freely permitted? This question was raised by the Fair Use Review, but s 47C was not subsequently amended.[104]https://www.alrc.gov.au/publication/copyright-and-the-digital-economy-ip-42/copying-for-private-use/But to be clear that does not involve distributing that backup to anyone else.Illegal contentAside from the rules in the sidebar this should be common sense. If it is considered illegal in your country then finding it on an OD is a pitfall. Most countries law enforcement agencies will have some form of online reporting mechanism. Eg.https://tips.fbi.gov/homeIf you have to ask "Is this legal?" then you…

i do not understand this reddit
So, i have just discovered this some hours ago, and i am seeing that people post open directories (kinda obvious). The thing is... this are private people's directories? Because if so... how is this legal? Also i have seen many open directories for movies (which i am interested in), but as i understand this are people´s private servers, all this data is not secured, right? I mean, it might have viruses and other things? My mind is blowing a little so please if someone can explain hahaha

Any possible guidance?
Hi all. I'll start off by saying i love this sub, lol. it always surprises me with really cool and useful stuff. hours ago i found a couple of PDF files containing patterns of clothes dating back to the 16th century (Which is absolutely insane!!), and i would like to ask how i can find more of these!? I've tried the "index of /" method, but i can barely find stuff, so it's either I'm doing it wrong or there are no traces of the keywords I'm looking up. Help would be appreciated. I am asking, of course, not forcing it upon anybody! you lot seem very chill, so I'm feeling confident :)
P.S. i hope this doesnt come off as disobeying rule N.2

THE SAFEST WAY TO SEARCH FOR OR VIEW OPEN DIRECTORIES IS TO DO IT YOURSELF.
Using apps, tools, addons/extensions or external sites is a guaranteed way of giving someone your data and possibly allowing them to run exploits on your devices.Read the sidebar, read the sticky at the top of the sub. Get good at searching.
