It was the massive tree I was looking at when I walked towards Wakamiya Shrine. Turned out (no surprise) it is a camphor tree of renown, known as Wakamiya-no-okusu. Its trunk circumference is 11.46m and it is 24m high. Wonderful ancient creature, broken by the weight of a snowfall in 1719...
