Acer Nitro AN517-55 extremely slow boot - BIOS POST time 67.6 seconds
Hey everyone, I've been dealing with a slow boot issue on my Acer Nitro AN517-55 (i9-12900H, 16GB RAM, Windows 11 Pro) and I can't figure out the cause.
The problem:
Boot takes about 1 minute 30 seconds to reach Windows login screen. The issue started suddenly one day with no changes made beforehand. Shutdown also has issues - screen goes black but fans spin at full speed and I have to force shutdown manually.
What I've already tried:
Checked startup apps in Task Manager (only Steam was High impact, disabled it)
SFC /scannow - no issues found
Windows Update - all up to date
RAM test (mdsched) - no errors
SSD health check via CrystalDiskInfo - 95% Good
Updated all drivers including NVIDIA audio
Reset BIOS to defaults, disabled PXE boot, POST delay set to 0
Checked for XMP/memory profiles in BIOS - nothing unusual
System Restore attempted - didn't help
Key finding:
Task Manager shows Last BIOS time: 67.6 seconds which is way above normal (should be 3-10 seconds). This means the problem is in POST/BIOS phase, before Windows even starts loading. BIOS version is Insyde Corp. V2.18 (7/11/2025).
Any ideas what could cause such a long BIOS POST time? Could it be a hardware defect?

I am very lost

Hello, imnot sure if I'min the right place, but 4chan ignored me and I really need advice.
My laptop got wet while I was away and no longer turns on. So I need a new one.
The thing is, I'm not super tech savy, so I'm not positive what to look for.
My previous laptop was a Lenovo Yoga 710, it had gotten a bit slow, but I was mostly happy with it.
I'm looking for something that will last. This is a big purchase after all.
Lots of ports would be great. I keep everything I can on external drives.
I would like decent power. I watch a lot of YouTube, open a decent number of tabs, and would like to start using Steam again.
My house burned down, so I'm living with others and don't have space for a desktop right now.
I use a wireless keyboard when typing alot, so bonus points if it can fold like the Yoga.
Minimum AI please
Budget is $1000
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Buy a PS5 Pro or Macbook Pro first?
Before you say get a gaming PC / laptop, i specifically need a macbook for work; so i honestly would prefer not to have two computers. I was hoping to get one of these soon since my 2013 macbook is starting to show its age over the last year but i also haven’t been gaming at all over the last couple years due to lack of a console or gaming device in general. Would also be buying these new. Which do you think is better to purchase ASAP in terms of potential price changes?

Locked out of my Intel Laptop
I just recently logged into my computer and then it went into a Microsoft login screen I’ve never seen before. I don’t have a Microsoft account so I couldn’t enter a password or exit that screen without turning off my computer. Once I tried to log back in, my original password is no longer working and requires a Microsoft password that I don’t have.
I press the forgot password button and it leads me to a screen to put in my phone number to reset the password button as soon as I do, it says this function is temporarily not working.
Any help? All my work is on my computer and I’m freaking out.

Do we need to make a pinned post that explains why people should not type random things from genAI into the Windows command line?
We're seeing people who, for one reason or another, are getting commands from one or more of the various genAI models and putting it into the Windows CLI.
Doing this without knowing what the command is, is generally accepted to be a rather terrible idea.
Shall we attempt to warn users against this or not?

How did focus stealing become so ubiquitous?
It seems like it should be a core principle : only the user should decide what window they are focusing on. If a user is typing sensitive commands inside a program, there should never be another program popping up over it to absorb those commands, because then god knows what can happen.
In Windows it seems anything is allowed to steal focus at any time. It is frequent to get interrupted while you are typing in a program, and have to refocus the window back to what you were doing. It doesn't seem as prevalent in OS X but to my recollection it is allowed there too. IDK about Linux.
How did this not cause more outrage over the years? Is everybody just suffering silently? Or do most people not even notice?
