👨🔬 Polytech scientists have developed a new drug that may help to cope with Alzheimer's disease in the future.
Alzheimer's disease is accompanied by significant memory loss as a result of the destruction of contacts between neurons. 🧠
In the research, experts identified the compound and managed to aim it at the target molecule, activating and changing its function.
The drug was tested on mice with memory impairments. With intraperitoneal injection into the body, the substance successfully overcomes the blood-brain barrier separating the circulatory and central nervous systems, penetrating to brain cells, and had a positive effect.
The authors of the development will continue testing. The next stage will be an analysis for toxicity and mutagenicity. After laboratory experiments, it will be possible to proceed to clinical trials.
