Letting go

There was a very interesting thread yesterday about the ending. One of the complaints about the ending was that not all the important characters were in the Church.

To that I replied that IMO, we are seeing the finale through Jack's eyes. That doesn't reduce the flash sideways of the rest of the characters by any means. But the "letting go" scene was between Christian and Jack and the people in the Church were the people who were most important *to Jack*.

For instance, if we would have seen the finale through Locke's eyes, there's no doubt in my mind that Helen would have been in the Church and he would have moved on with her. And I think that his letting go scene would have been with his father.

So it got me thinking about the other characters and who their letting go scene would be with.

Some characters that I thought about:

Kate - with her mother.

Charlie - with Liam

Sawyer - with Anthony Cooper

Ben - Probably his father, but Charles Widmore could also be an option.

Then I thought about Sayid:

I think his letting go scene would be with Ben.

But I do think that he would move on with Nadia and not Shannon.

I wasn't a fan of him moving on with Shannon. It makes sense if we're seeing from Jack's POV and for nostalgia, which is why I think that's who Sayid moved on with in the show. But from Sayid's perspective, I'm not buying it.

Basically for two reasons:

After Shannon and Nadia both died, Sayid mentions a few times the love of his life. Most of the time it can be left up to interpretation because both Nadia and Shannon died in his arms. But then he says this to Locke in season 5:

SAYID: It's only because I left the Island that I was finally able to marry the woman I loved. We spent nine months together—the best nine months of my life, John. That's what I know in my heart.

For me that's the ultimate proof that Nadia was the love of his life.

The second reason is that Naveen Andrews did not sell me in the scene right before Shannon is killed and she begs him to believe in her. Maggie Grace was fantastic but Naveen did not convince me.

So...what who do you think some other characters let go and moved on with had we seen the finale from their perspective?

Lost rewatch

I started my annual rewatch last week (on Season 1: Episode 7 "The Moth").

I used to rewatch previous seasons waiting for the new season to start.

Been rewatching the whole show on DVD and eventually bluray since 2010.

Anyone else still as borderline obsessed with the show like I am?

Questions about "There’s a first time for everything" Jack telling Desmond

In The End, when Desmond says "you were right ,Jack", he replies "Well, There’s a first time for everything.". Meaning smt. like he was always wrong.

right before that , Jack talks about how "Locke was right about everything wish I could tell him that".

Do you think it is an allegory or self-hate or a is it direct point of the narrative? The outcome of the story? And do you think it is a fair point?

Because Jack was not always wrong. Even the jughead bomb had to happen so that they could go back to present. There are many cases he was more right about. And many cases he was wrong about. It’s all debatable.

and when it comes to the philosophical debate of science/ faith , does it look like the narrative declares a clear winner with those words from Jack?

or are these words more about his self-loathing character, always being hard on himself, especially as broken he is at The End?

rather than a point from the narrative? Many people seem to think it is the latter. I'm curious about what it looks like for long time fans.

Maybe all we need is less than society thinks (thoughts)

We don't need so much things as society think. We don't need expensive bags, rings, cars, houses, boats. The humble car, humble house etc. is enough. All we need is friends, love, family, music, playing games, eat, drink and having not to work so much for the basic.

But all Widmore cared wasn't about his daughter, he was drinking of an expensive bottle, he was going in auction presentations, he was searching for an distant island, and even capable of killing to find it. And the riches in the real world follow this lifestyle.

This series shows us how important are the simpliest things. I think it's necessary they broadcast it in TV again. It tells so much about everything. The antiwar thing is so much meaningful to me, even more so because there's happening two wars right now.

It's the third time I'm watching the series. I love it so much.

I already have a few of the official books for lost (lost chronicles and encyclopedia) but was wondering if there are any other books or other merchandise that is worth getting? I'd love to add it to my collection and its great for once you've finished the series.

Missed opportunities for connections

Ive always felt that Sawyer’s Sydney murder victim was a missed opportunity to tie some characters together. He’s not in any one else’s backstory and it’s such a big deal for such a minor character.
I’ve always thought they could have made Saywer kill Christian. Imagine Christian did some shady things after losing his job, maybe some dodgy loans, and got on the wrong side of the wrong person and they sent Sawyer after him using the same lie we see in the show.
Of course we wouldn’t have THAT scene between Sawyer and Jack if this happened, but it feels like it could have worked.
Any other missed opportunities you would have liked to see play out?

Plot holes in lost

Is it just me or i would have loved to know the secret of the island itself? Like where did it even come from and more explanations to how miracles happened (I assume it was Jacob's doing)

At the start of the last season they showed the island sunk underwater, how come it was still ashore by the end of it?

Or how did Eloise/Charles get to know so much about the windows leading to the islands? Was it really all from Daniel's journal?

Also they said that the people whispering or appearing are the souls stuck inside the island then how come Walt was one of them despite being alive then and why was he important enough to get kidnapped instead of Claire's baby? What was the point of it.

How was jacob even able to leave the island if she never taught him anything. I really would have loved it if they focused more on the twins

If the mib was Christian how come he was John too when Sun was in that cabin

Has anyone seen Lost in chronological order?

I was thinking about the way Lost tells a story with a messy timeline, with some scenes at the end from the begining, pieces from the past from diferent perspectives, idk It is cool, but i was thinking about watching It in chronological order to watch the other side of the story

Characters you would want to survive on the Island with…

Can you name at least 5 characters, and I mean literally any 5 characters of the show, that would most want to survive on the island with and why would you pick the 5 you chose?

Here is my Five-

1.Jack:Simply because he’s a doctor and I could trust him the most to help me out and support me with whatever I needed. Was Jack prefect? Of course not, but who on the show was. I myself am not perfect and do have issues with letting go of stuff in my life so I’m sure we’d have many stories to tell each other. Plus regardless of being a doctor or not, he’s just one that I know I could be friends with and we’d have each other’s backs no matter what.

2.James “Sawyer” Ford:He was tough and knew how to handle bad situations. Despite all his struggles and insecurities, he was a survivor and given how he grew in the show I do believe we could have gotten along eventually as all the other characters in the show did, well all the characters that weren’t bad. He knew how to use a gun which would come in handy if taking down a wild animal. He was more of a loner then a people person but I’m sort of both so like I said we would get along.

3.Sun Kwon:She knew how to grow Fruits and Vegetables which would come in handy for food. She was nice and capable of handling her own problems without Jin as we saw very well when she wasn’t with him. We’d definitely be friends.

4.Juliet Burke:Another Doctor along side Jack, not sure I need to say anything else.

5.John Locke:Tracker, Hunter, very faithful in what he believed. Sometimes acted irrational but I still think I could trust him. Plus judging by how long I would be on the island, who better to have around then the man that never wanted even leave.

Fav and maybe least fav couples?

As I’m in a middle of a rewatch. Just got to season 2 episode 6 Abandoned. Got me thinking about the couples o felt were organic and likeable. And maybe some that felt a tad forced. Jin and Sun is by far my favourite couple On the show. Culturally they just bring a lot. But really organic, and such a great back story, a lot of depth. Really like jack and Kate, and believe it or not Kate and Sawyer lol. Prefer Kate and Jack though. Charlie and Claire cute. Even though I’m prob less of a Charlie fan in a rewatch. Gotta say the most forced, and contrived couple has to be Sayiid and Shannon. I’m sorry I didn’t get it then.
When I watched in 2004. And I don’t get it now. Is it just me? I don’t know he’s an intellectual
Man. A former soldier. Had this great love with Nadia. No offense to Shannon. I just don’t get why he would be interested in her. In the real world. Well Shannon, planted his bag lmao. Anyway just my thoughts.

Which DVD/Blu-Ray series set has a good episode behind-the-scenes "extra" included with it?

I don't mean like the "Getting Lost" standalone film. I mean, a good, behind-the-scenes type of discussion of the episodes with the actors, producers, etc. Kind of like HBO Max started doing after each week's new episode of GOT ran. Is there any such thing for LOST? I purchased the full series on streaming online a few years ago, and I also have it on Blu-Ray. Those extras are not what I'm looking for. If such a thing exists, can someone point me to where to get it?
