Am back home! Here are some highlights of my official visit to Suzhou (Jiangsu Province), Beijing, and Shanghai. I did several events to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP), and met business and government officials, including President Xi Jinping. Made an official visit to China last week, my first as Senior Minister. Just as in previous visits, I had productive meetings and discussions with Chinese political and business leaders. I also spoke with Singaporeans who were based in China, for work or other reasons. Between engagements, I went #jalanjalan to get a sense of the city I was in. The US is imposing 10% tariffs on imports from all countries, including Singapore. In addition, it will impose higher ‘reciprocal’ tariffs on many countries with which it has significant trade deficits.

We will not respond with tariffs of our own, though many countries are bound to do so. For now, Budget 2025 measures provide adequate support. PM Lawrence Wong and his team will continue to monitor developments closely, and stand ready to intervene to help households and businesses if necessary.

Visited Teck Ghee Court Market and Food Centre this morning and met many stallholders and residents. Heartened to see that they enjoy the amenities in Teck Ghee. Had a fun morning with residents at the Kebun Baru Sunday Carnival! People were enjoying the fine weather and bonding together. I thank Henry Kwek and his team for organising this event and always taking care of our residents. go.gov.sg/qlxv3o

Met residents and stall owners at Kebun Baru Market and Food Centre on Sunday. Despite its name, the market is actually in Teck Ghee! Glad to see many residents out and about in the morning. My team will continue to work hard to address their issues and problems as best we can. go.gov.sg/h5w5tz

Deeply saddened by the passing of Mr Lee Ek Tieng. He is perhaps best remembered for cleaning up the Singapore River and Kallang Basin. His legacy lives on in the institutions he helped build, the policies he shaped, and the nation he helped transform. go.gov.sg/wvf1iw

Met residents and caught up with my volunteers at the MPS in Teck Ghee last night. Some residents are dealing with difficult situations, but I was heartened by their quiet determination to find solutions. We will make every effort to support those in need, and make sure no one struggles alone, or gets left behind.
