Clickable DVS influencers map

These are twitter friends of @DataVizSociety followers.

To make this vis I've downloaded 1Gb of data about 600 DVS followers and picked 500 twitter accounts that are most followed by them. It took a few days to collect the data due to twitter API limits.

And I learned how to use services on ubuntu server to make the script immortal 😈

My takeaway: Obama is more popular in DVS even than
Giorgia Lupi, Alberto Cairo and Bostock. That's weird.

Pay attention to how hovering works. Big circles don't block neighbours. That is possible, because instead of standard HTML hover I look for closest circle and enlarge it with JS.

There is a way to convert an array of points into a spline, it helps to create any shape such as letters or spirals. And you do not need to take care of these bezier handles!

Word of the day bot

I launched a channel @mw_wod that carries the english words of the day from Meriam Webster.

You can either read the description right in the channel or click the link. It will take you to the MW website, where you can find out the origin of the word and examples of its use.

I really tried to learn Matplotlib, but every single matplotlibbing ends up on Stackoverflow.

So I believe that sooner or later this cheat sheet will come in handy.
