Translation:

For emergency departments, a clan-related shooting in Berlin basically always means the same thing. Either two cousins drag their wounded relative into the emergency room, start yelling at half the staff, and within five minutes around a hundred clan members are occupying the emergency department. The police cordon off the entire area with 20 vehicles, and for hours no other patients can access the premises because the site has to be protected from the rival clan. Nursing staff remove their name badges because people wait for them outside the hospital.

If the patient survives, they are guarded around the clock for the entire duration of their stay. These incidents have more than quadrupled over the past five years. Or the family member who was shot or stabbed does not survive—in which case you have at least as much trouble and have to think about how to protect your staff. If the man dies at the scene, I can only take my hat off to the officers. The amount of screaming and shouting that goes on is insane. These incidents, especially in emergency departments, are becoming increasingly frequent in Berlin.

There is little help from politicians apart from: “Remain professional.” Berlin apparently does not want it any other way. If you raise the issue, even as someone directly affected because you have already been physically assaulted in the emergency department by the clientele described above, you are more likely to be labeled a racist. The tipping point was passed years ago. Berlin could borrow every conservative judge from Bavaria and they still would not get the problem under control. The blame lies with the city AND with people’s mentality. Anyone who calls the debate about the appearance and character of the city racist shares some of the responsibility.

And one more thought: anyone who now thinks that this is a reason to vote for the AfD would be shooting themselves in the foot twice over. There is no expertise within that party in the fields of emergency and crisis medicine, forensic evidence, and law enforcement. And right-wing vigilante groups cause just as much harm
