🇷🇺🇦🇫 A Russian delegation visited Afghanistan and held talks with the Taliban leadership.

The visit was led by Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergei Shoigu. The parties discussed economic, political, security and other topics of mutual interest.

In particular, Shoigu supported the planned Trans-Afghan Railway project, aimed at increasing trade and transportation between Central and South Asia. Its estimated cost is $4.8 billion, the route will connect Afghanistan and Uzbekistan with ports in Pakistan. The Secretary of the Security Council also noted that Russian investors and state-owned companies are interested in investing in Afghanistan in such areas as mining, transport and agriculture.

Shoigu also said that the Russian authorities will soon exclude the Taliban from the list of banned organizations. In his opinion, this will become the basis for the development of bilateral relations.

The Taliban, in turn, said that they want to make Afghanistan a center of economic cooperation, trade and transit in the region. Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund noted that the movement seeks to ensure security for these purposes. He noted that the Taliban has banned the cultivation of narcotic plants and eliminated groups that were damaging the economy and security of Afghanistan and neighboring countries.
