I know this isn’t for everyone, but I decided a few weeks ago, after having deactivated my account for months, to just delete the whole thing. I know there are “memories” on there galore, but I still have the most important photos saved, and I order photo books to keep on hand. The digital memories of funny times, hard times, great times, etc I just decided weren’t worth being tied to a godless communistic psychopathic company in order to look at them. That’s just me though 🤷🏻‍♀️

Pretty much what I did after reading “Permanent Record” by Snowden. Nuked FB, IG, and Goodreads on the same day. Didn’t bother saving anything which at the time seemed a bit extreme, but that book freaked me out and I bolted.😂Now I’m here learning about reclaiming my online privacy and freedom.😎

I chose to convert an old unused laptop, and wanted to completely nuke the Mac OS, so there was really nothing on it that I needed to save. I flipped the switch to Linux cold turkey by meticulously following the instructions from a video linked in this chat. Sounds like you are approaching it carefully. I'm a fan of measure twice (or more), cut once.😊

So what are we supposed to do with all the phones going to 5g??

I have an HP 530 that I would like to load Linux on. I have no real idea what version would work best. Any ideas?

If you are converting a Mac and liked the system on that, elementary OS may be a good one to check out. I installed that this past week, onto a 10 year old ASUS that wasn’t being used. I chose elementary because I really like my MacBook.

I have a new 2017 laptop. Is it still acceptable to remove windows and install Linux?

I wonder if the concern is more that lines are internet/cellular based. My husband (an old-school phoneman) and I were talking about this last night. Our land line was disconnected and ported into a digital line via Comcast. If internet or power goes down, so does our phone. True land lines would continue to operate unless there were deeper issues with the carrier (AT&T, etc.).

I backed up and deleted last fall/winter, can’t really remember. That tells you how much it bothered me 😂 Do not miss it one bit.

Have been with this group since it started. I have Ubuntu on a desktop, Linux Mint on a laptop, and now I cannot stand to get on my wife's desktop with Windows 10. Linux is easier to use and more responsive, just takes time to get use to the change

Any gamers out there . Just wanted to mention i have tried Proton on 3 windows based games . 3d chess , Poker Night at the Inventory and Table Top Racing . All worked flawlessly on Ubuntu 20.04 . I'm using the 470 video driver with a gtx1070 6 gig card . Talk about being able to totally give the finger to Microsoft. It's priceless
