Must have been around the year 1988 that weekend when JR, and his friend Greg (Dishwalla's co-founder) (who was one of the only friends myself and my older sister had in common), invited me and my friend George over to JR's parents house, near Turnpike Road in our home town, to help them figure out how to program their new electronic synthesizer and drum machines they were using for their original band, "Life Talking." We spent hours getting his MIDI cables to work with his computers.

Back then, me and George had a weekly radio show on our local college station, KCSB-FM (ironically, where Sean Hannity started his career! and, during the same time we were there...a story for another day). We were the first to play JR's music on the radio. There, and later when I had a gig at KHTY, 97.5 FM, a very popular "top-40" radio station in Santa Barbara whose signal reached much farther than only our town. From there they started to become popular and got on the radio in Los Angeles and the rest was history, for their band, "Dishwalla"...an iconic band often at the "top of the charts" in the mid to late 1990's.

I last saw JR at a "open air" concert Dishwalla did in Arizona next to Tempe Town Lake, years ago. I went up to the stage near the end, not sure if he would remember me, and he came flying down off the stage and almost tackled me with a big hug.

Super nice guy. Hope to re-connect with him someday.

Almighty God, Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of family, for the children You have placed in our care, and for quiet gifts that keep a home. Life and kinship are from You, and we receive them with gratitude.

We ask that You would keep Your word present in our hearts, and make us faithful to teach it to those who need to hear it. We pray for strength for mothers and fathers in the responsibilities You have given them. We ask for courage in schools and other places of influence, that our children of all ages live in truth rather than in the earthly trends of the moment.

And as we enter the week ahead, we ask You for enough strength to meet everything that is expected of us, for each day.
