Newly released emails suggest Jeffrey Epstein and LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman had a longer and closer relationship than previously known.
Reid Hoffman has defended his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein as limited to โfundraising,โ via a handful of calls, emails and in-person meetings that ended in March 2018. But documents recently released by the US Justice Department suggest a longer and more personal relationship thatโs drawing scrutiny to a major Democratic Party donor.
The LinkedIn Corp. co-founder and venture capitalist first met Epstein through fundraising work with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, five years after Epstein pled guilty to procuring a minor for prostitution and served time in jail. Over the years they exchanged gifts โ dumbbells for Hoffman, a metal surfer statue for Epstein โ with Hoffman staying at both Epsteinโs Caribbean island and his townhouse on New Yorkโs Upper East Side.
And in May 2018, emails show Hoffman reaching out to Epstein about investing in a new fund being raised by entrepreneur Joi Ito, then the director of the MIT Media Lab. Billionaire Hoffman was putting his own money into the fund, which was unrelated to the university.
โJoi says that youโre on the fence around investing in the fund โ worth scheduling a skype call for that? OK if no,โ Hoffman wrote.

The emails illustrate how Epstein for years patiently built a web of connections throughout Silicon Valleyโs elite, before dying in jail in 2019 facing sex trafficking charges. Hoffman, a board member at Microsoft Corp. and partner at Greylock Partners, once hosted Epstein at a dinner with Mark Zuckerberg, Peter Thiel and Elon Musk. Epstein advised Hoffman on matters beyond fundraising, from Hoffmanโs interest in buying a private plane to his meetings with foreign dignitaries. Those included the UKโs former Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, who was arrested in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
Epsteinโs ties to Hoffman are now spilling into US politics. Hoffman has given $35.6 million at the federal level since 2023, almost all to Democrats. In the run-up to this yearโs midterm elections, there have been calls from Republican and Democratic candidates alike for politicians to return Hoffmanโs campaign contributions. President Donald Trump has called for a Justice Department investigation into Epsteinโs links to several Democrats, including Hoffman, who in November he called a โsleazebag.โ

Sovereign Father, as momentous events unfold across the Middle East, we stand in awe of Your prophetic Word taking shape before our eyes. We pray for the protection of our troops and allies, and for those finding new breath in lands long closed to Your gospel, and for innocent lives caught in the crossfire of ancient conflicts.
And we pray: where darkness has reigned, let Your light break through.
Lord, we thank You for leaders who welcome prayer into the halls of power, and we ask that You continue to guard the religious freedoms You have graciously preserved for us. Where bias against Your people has taken root in our institutions, we trust in You to restore what is right.
Holy Spirit, we pray that You will shield our children from the confusion that spreads through our schools and culture. When legislation fails them and authorities overstep, remind us that You are their ultimate Defender. Grant courage to parents who stand firm in Your truth about how You created us.
As we enter the week ahead, we pray, grant us Your strength to meet every responsibility You have placed before us, that our daily labors might reflect Your grace and truth in our earthly world that needs both.
In these days when so much seems uncertain, we fix our eyes not on earthly powers, but on You, who holds every nation in Your hand and works all things together for good.
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ our Lord,
