ciao ragazzi and welcome!
In this telegram channel, I share with you my experience of applying and helping others apply for master's and PhD, with a particular focus on programs for lawyers.

I myself am a Harvard grad. When applying for a master of laws, I got into Harvard Law School, New York School of Law, Master's of International Dispute Settlement in Geneva, and the University of Cambridge. From those schools, I was offered over USD 130,000 in grants and scholarships in total.

I've been helping other people with writing their personal statements and motivation letters for the past 7+ years.

I've also been on the side of the admissions committee, evaluating LLM and PhD applications at the European University Institute where I completed my doctoral studies.

The year I spent at Harvard was one of the best years in my entire life. I want it to be accessible to as many people as possible.

🚀 Funding Your Master’s Degree: It’s Negotiable!

This weekend, I hosted an event on how to fund a master’s degree (thank you to everyone who attended!). One of the key topics we discussed was the negotiability of grants and scholarships.

🎓 Key Takeaways:
1. It’s okay to negotiate: in the US, a quarter of admitted college students ask for more funding, and about half of them succeed.
2. It’s NOT too late to negotiate: if you’ve been accepted, it means they want you. Now, you both share the same goal: to figure out how to make it happen.
3. Approach it with a negotiator's mindset: it's not a one-time ask but an ongoing process.

💡 Successful Negotiation Examples:
• I secured a $9k grant from Harvard’s General Committee on Scholarships and negotiated a stipend for a position at the Permanent Court of Arbitration advertised as unpaid.
• My client negotiated a salary raise to fund her master’s in law and finance in Frankfurt.
• A friend turned a full-tuition scholarship at Bucerius Law School into full coverage after two rounds of negotiation.

Tips for Negotiating:
• Recognize your value: If you're accepted, they want you.
• Adopt a partnership mindset: You're not demanding or begging, you’re looking for a joint solution.
• Present a strong case: Explain why this program is essential for your goals and how financial aid is the only barrier.

dears, I uploaded the recordings of my last two webinars to YouTube (without intro and Q&A): https://www.youtube.com/@harvardstateofmind; life is quite hectic for me at the moment and I don't have as much time to publish as I'd like to, but I'm planning to record more videos in English in the near future - I'll keep you posted! in the meantime, enjoy ☺️
