There are new articles this week, citing StatCounter, stating that Linux rose to 10% market share in the US. Exciting if true, but I doubt it is. More bots pretend to be real users than ever now, and as with last time, that messes with the numbers. Web market share stats are no longer reliable.

Also, as I say in the thread below, Linux users are likely to also be ad blocker users. Mix that with bots adding noise to the data, and you can’t measure Linux desktop market share with any accuracy.

Steam Hardware Survey puts Linux at 4%, and that’s probably about as accurate a number as we’ll ever get, with the caveat that nobody really uses Steam on macOS any more.

man, private relay is so bad. i try to only use it on unencrypted public wifi, but since there’s no setting for that, it gets applied to all sorts of networks, including my own iPhone’s personal hotspot. (even when i disable “limit ip address tracking” on the hotspot, it re-enables itself after some time. this causes lots of issues on the subway, where there’s only signal at stations.)

but really, maybe https is enough and i should forego it altogether

Idk if people realize we've already built a mass surveillance network that sees everything you say called social media, and yet people arguably act even more unhinged there when they know they're being watched.

Google replaced pushing Git tags for certain source code with obtaining source code via Google Drive after making a request through Google Forms. It's completely ridiculous and they've gradually become very slow at handling requests. They're in clear violation of the GPLv2 now.

These changes won't negatively impact GrapheneOS on upcoming Motorola Mobility devices. In fact, it's a major part of why our partnership exists. It only negatively impacts Pixels and hurts Google more than anyone else. Google wants to make Pixels worse for no apparent reason.
