Valve wins lawsuit against Rothschild and associated entities, with a jury agreeing they violated an anti-patent troll protection…
The court also agreed that they had breached a global license agreement with Valve.

ive noticed a really weird pattern in that in every patent troll related court case, news articles consistently refer to the plaintiff (patent troll) as an "inventor" when yet in every case the patent troll is just some rich guy who bought up a ton of patents just to sit on them and sue everyone else.
its similar but less common with copyright trolling where music/video copyright owners are sometimes called "producers" when they are not. they just paid the creator for ownership

actually huh that would be a pretty good short story
pov young cop new on the job
thought it would be cool to fight bad guys, ends up just dealing with bullshit among the worst parts of societies. trailer trash domestic abuse, drunk dudes stumbling in the street and the vomiting in the back of his car
thought he would get a cute girl by having a "high status" job, actually everyone hates cops now and he still cant get a gf
empty apartment, few friends, tries to go out drinking with other cops but theyre all older guys. its a different culture and he doesnt fit in
starts having to go out on suicides more often. nothing to do there, just show up, clear the scene wait for ems to show up and call time of death before he can take the body.
one day hes out on another suicide. the parents are in the living room crying. a 20 year old guy in laying in a pool of his own blood and missing half his head. hes only a year or two younger than the protagonist. ems arrives. its two guys the same age as our cop protagonist. the paramedic that runs the scene just seems hollow. he goes through the motions as if he doesnt even recognize that the body on the ground used to be a person with aspirations and feelings.
protag decides maybe videogames would be a harmless hobby to fill the void instead of drinking or doing something more dangerous
he finds a used vr kit for a steal on craigslist, shows up to buy it and its an older couple looking rather sad. they're offloading their son's stuff after he killed himself
when he tries out the vr kit he finds it already has a bunch of games on it.
"most recent played: senior summer vacation"
"last played: 6 weeks ago"
"play time: 1683 hours"
"synopsis: its your last break before graduating college and joining the work grind for the next 40 years and you'll make this one count."
"tags: visual novel, cute, cozy, romance, mild sexual themes"
must be a good game if the last owner sunk that many hours into it. he tries it and gets invested in the story. one of the npc girls catches his eye, he follows her route.
he finds himself thinking about the girl often when hes not playing. he wishes he could find a girl just like her irl.
he finishes the route. "anon, I dont want this week to ever end" he gets why people like romance VNs even if theyre kinda cringy.
there's no more content for this girl but there are other routes. he replays and starts consuming the rest of the game
he gets it now. he wants to spend more time with the first npc girl, he wants to have new conversations instead of only what is available in the game.
chat bots dont do it, they cant simulate her. he tries other VNs. they dont shine the same way.
eventually the feeling of loss because he cant talk to this girl becomes to much and he becomes the next statistic in the suicide epidemic
play time: 3232 hours
