One of them was freed after transferring $30,000, but the other says he was then "sold" to a second gang. The whole thing finally ended in a police chase hitting 70mph through residential streets, which wrapped up with the getaway car crashing into a lamp post.
Six men have now been convicted, though the ringleader ran it all by WhatsApp from overseas and is still out there.
And that's the ugly lesson underneath it. Carry life-changing money on a phone and you become a target for people who'll torture you for the password.

During Covid this American was in college and took an online math class because she was told since you didn’t have to go to class, the vaccine was not required. When it came time to take the final, the professor said it had to be in-person on campus
