Rust developers at Google are twice as productive as C++ teams

When we've rewritten systems from Go into Rust, we've found that it takes about the same size team about the same amount of time to build it, that is, there's no loss in productivity when moving from Go to Rust. And the interesting thing is we do see some benefits from it. So we see reduced memory usage in the services that we've moved from Go ... and we see a decreased defect rate over time in those services that have been rewritten in Rust – so increasing correctness.

И насчёт C++:

In every case we've seen a decrease by more than 2x in the amount of effort required to both build the services in Rust as well as maintain and update those services written in Rust," he said. And so that's a really huge thing for us because C++ code is very expensive. These are large teams. It's a lot of work. There's a lot of risk.

Я не гей

Кажется, многие проигнорировали мой дисклеймер, и совершенно зря: это не шутка, а серьёзное утверждение. Именно, я бисексуал (би, бишка, Бишкек), и так как моё влечение — как сексуальное, так и романтическое — не направленно исключительно на мужчин, то и называть меня геем некорректно.

Почему я это говорю? А потому что люди часто как-то забывают о том, что люди могут быть не только гетеро- и гомосексуальными (а также гетеро- и гоморомантичными), что приводит к тому, что бисексуальность кажется менее распространённой, чем в реальности. Это также становится одной из причин, почему бисексуальность порой считают ненастоящей или временной ориентацией — даже среди самого ЛГБТ-сообщества. Это — одна из граней отдельной проблемы, известной, как bisexual erasure, и я стараюсь вносить хотя бы небольшой вклад в борьбе с ней.

It's a library AND a binary

Пакет cargo может включать в себя и библиотеку, и конечное приложение (по умолчанию — lib.rs и main.rs). Хоть это и выглядит удобно, автор статьи убедительно демонстрирует проблемы подобного подхода и почему это на самом деле не то, что вы хотите.

TL;DR: или лишние зависимости, или плохой UX для разработчиков, использующих либу, как зависимость, либо плохой UX для конечных пользователей.

Golang is not a good language
And its creators don't think you're a good developer.

A month or two ago, I put an image of a tierlist of languages that I like using in my Github readme, ranked from F to S tier. F being my least favorite, and S being my favorite.

But gophers were FURIOUS that their favorite language was the only one at F tier and demanded an explanation from me, pressing a metaphorical knife to my throat.

So let me explain what I have against Go. Also, just as a disclaimer, I don’t like hating on languages too much. Most of them just want to be tools and have their own shortcomings. But a lot of problems Go experiences seem to be self-imposed restrictions through an ideology that wilfully ignores decades of important language research, which just doesn’t make sense to me.
