A two-day air traffic control strike has begun in France, already disrupting hundreds of flights as of 3 July.

According to France’s civil aviation authority (DGAC), airlines have been ordered to cut flight volumes: at Paris airports, up to 25% of flights have been cancelled, and this figure could reach 40% on 4 July. In other regions, especially in the south, up to 50% of flights have been grounded.

Ryanair has cancelled 170 flights, and EasyJet has reduced its schedule by 274 flights. Disruptions are also affecting overflights through French airspace.

Air traffic controller unions say the strike stems from staff shortages, outdated systems, and unresolved labour issues. France’s Ministry of Transport called the strike action “unacceptable”, particularly at the start of the peak summer travel season.

If you are planning to travel to or via France in the coming days, be sure to check your flight status in advance.

Attention passengers planning to fly from/to Russia.

Yesterday, there were major flight delays at Russian airports. Pulkovo Airport suspended both arrivals and departures for several hours. At Moscow’s major hubs, delays reached or exceeded three hours, causing missed connections for a large number of travellers - including those flying from Armenia or Georgia to Cyprus.

If you are planning to fly via Russian airports in the near future:

- allow for extra time between connecting flights when planning your itinerary;

- prepare alternative routing options in case of schedule changes;

- at the first sign of disruption, contact your airline’s support service to rebook as needed.

For your information: Aeroflot has (possibly temporarily) removed the “call from website” function.

Important update for non-EU nationals travelling visa-free as family members of EU citizens

According to updated information from official sources, these travellers are now required to obtain a visa for such trips.

Previously, the non-EU spouse of an EU citizen (with the exception of Cyprus) could enter the Schengen Area without a visa, provided they were travelling together with their EU spouse or children.
This exemption is no longer available. There are already reports of non-EU spouses being denied boarding.

More details via the link.

If you're planning travel under these conditions, consult the embassy or consulate of your destination country to confirm the latest requirements.

UPD:
No new regulations have been introduced. The decision to allow boarding depends on border control at the point of departure.
