📊 Just the numbers: From January to July 2025, seismologists recorded over 500 underground tremors (exactly 515) somehow related to Cyprus. 😱 Sounds alarming? Let's take a deeper look.

🔎 Not all tremors are "local": It’s important to understand – the instruments detect activity within a radius of hundreds of kilometers!

🌊 Many of these 515 events occurred off the coasts of Crete, Rhodes, or in the Aegean Sea.

🔎 Strength lies in depth and rarity:
📉 Only 39 tremors reached a magnitude of 3.0+ (the threshold of light perceptibility).

⚡ The strongest (M6.1) happened on May 14 (east of Crete, 01:51) and May 22 (northeast of Heraklion, 06:19). Both were at a depth of about 60 km.

🌊 On June 3 (02:17) – a M5.8 tremor between Rhodes and the Turkish town of Çiftlik.

📍 The closest significant event to Cyprus was on June 23 (M4.3), with the epicenter 57 km south of Paralimni.

🌊 The "shallowest" (depth only 2.61 km!, M3.1) was on June 22 in the sea, 134 km from Polis. Lucky – if it had been under the city, the consequences would have been more serious.

❓ Why is Cyprus "trembling"? The island is at the forefront of tectonic confrontation! 🌍 Here, the African plate is slowly but steadily subducting beneath the Eurasian plate. This giant "subduction zone" is the main cause of seismicity throughout the Eastern Mediterranean.
