Β«From the sum of these processes arises the historical concept of the "Migration of Peoples", which overthrows the ancient world. There is a danger of chaotic conditions occurring. But a common foundation of life in the ancient world prevents this process. It is the uniform foundation of life that Christianity created on the soil of the entire ancient world. On this BASIS ALONE is the formation of a great Germanic Reich possible. This is the GREATEST MERIT OF CHRISTIANITY, the effect of which continues to this day. Strong personalities build the Reich on this basis, as the foundation of their politics. It is a sign of great narrow-mindedness to call a Charlemagne "the slaughterer of Saxons," who, on the basis of his policy of Christianity, forcibly imposed this policy on those who resisted. He had to act this way. Certainly, the loss of the best German blood in the process is regrettable.Β»

MARCH 5: HANGED FOR RELIGIOUS FREEDOM
Blessed Gjon Gazulli
Priest and Martyr
Died: 1927
---
He was an Albanian priest and martyr. During his time, the government of Albania was forcing its citizens to convert to Albanian Orthodoxy in the guise of unity. Because he opposed this, he was arrested and beaten several times. He was accused of plotting against the government. This was done to hide the real reason for his death sentence: his refusal to renounce his priesthood and Catholic faith. He was hanged.
---
Blessed Gjon Gazulli, pray on my behalf for the religious freedom of Roman Catholics throughout the world. Amen.

MARCH 5: HE WAS STRICT WITH M/F INTERACTIONS
Saint Lucius I
Pope
Died: 254
---
He was our pope for only more than 8 months during the 3rd century. He was our 22nd pope. He was noted for his ascetic lifestyle, even while on the throne. He forbade men and women not related by blood to live together. He decreed that clergy should not live with deaconesses even if the lodging was given for reasons of charity. He also condemned Novatianism which rejected the church's right to accept lapsed Christians back.

HE SPENT 3 DAYS MAKING HIS SERMONS
Venerable Robert Spiske
---
Today is the death anniversary of the Ven. Robert Spiske. He was a Polish priest and founder of the Sisters of St. Hedwig. He was known for his excellent sermons. He used very simple words, and his success was due to his prayer and severe austerities . In the last years of his life, he needed two days and two nights to prepare the sermon, and the day before the sermon itself, he locked himself in his room and contemplated the content.
