FROM THE HISTORY OF ACTIVITIES OF JADIDS. Abdukodir Shakuriy (1875 – 1943)

Abdukodir Shakuriy, a great representative of the Jadid movement and opened the first Jadid school in Samarkand, was born in 1875 in Samarkand. His father, Mulla Abdushukur, was a gardener. At the age of 9, his father died and his mother fully educated her son. He received the starting information at his mother’s school, and then continued his studies at Tillakori and Orifjonboy madrassas in Samarkand. After graduating Madrasah in 1901, he dedicated his life to teaching.

Shakuriy read the I.Gaspirali’s newspaper “Tarjimon”, Fotih Karimiy’s newspaper “Vaqt” and Rizo Faxriddin’s magazine “Shuro”. At the same time, he opened a new method school. In 1904, Abdukodir Shakuriy met with Mahmudhoja Bekhbudiy, the leader of the Jadid Movement in Turkistan and there will be co-operation between them.

Shakuriy created the textbook “Rahbari savod” together with Hoji Muin Shukrullaev for the schools of “Usuli jadid”, the reading books named “Jome’ul Hikoyat”, “Zubdatul-ash’or” with an outstanding pedagogue Ismatulla Rakhmatullaev and the alphabetical textbook for the first-graders “Ta’limi alifbo yohud rahbari maktab”. These works were a novelty for the Jadid pedagogy.

In 1915, in Tashkent, Shakuriy published an alphabetical textbook named “Ta’limi alifbo yohud rahbari maktab” together with his disciple, well known teacher Ismatulla Rakhmatullaev. The textbook was divided into two parts, the first part was devoted to introducing the letters in the “Alphabet”, reading them and writing exercises. In 1911, Abdukodir Shakuriy created the reading book named “Jome’ul hikoyat” for the second class of the “Usuli jadid” schools.

FROM THE HISTORY OF ACTIVITIES OF JADIDS. Abdurauf Fitrat(1886 – 1938)

Abdurauf Fitrat was born in Bukhara (“Buxoroi-sharif”-Noble Bukhara) in 1886. His father was one of the pretty intellectual rich trader, his life passed on long journeys. His well-educated mother Mustafbibi mainly was occuped children’s education. In the beginning, Abdurauf studied in the old method school in the mahallah, then he studied at famous madrasah “Mir Arab”. In the madrasah, together thorough studying Arab, Persian languages and east philosophy, he was regular being acquainted with the I. Gaspirali’s newspaper “Tarjimon”, Mehmet Akif’s magazine “Sirot-ul mustaqim” and Rizoiddin Faxriddin’s magazine “Shuro” which was being begun spread its influence to citizens of Bukhara emirates and it was being begun woken up contempt against emirates system and colonial politics in the mind of young people. From these times, Abdurauf marked “Fitrat” pen-name for himself (“Fitrat means “create”, “to be created”, “innate”) and he printed his works in this pen-name and became famous with it.

In the years of studies of Abdurauf Fitrat, the first “Usuli Jadid” schools were established by famous intellectuals of Bukhara and from 1909 “Bukharai Sharif”, “Tarbiyai Atfol” (Children’s education) secret charity foundation started its work under their guidance. The first aim of the society was to send students to Istanbul. With the efforts of the community, several other students were sent to Istanbul together with Abdurauf Fitrat.

REFUGEES WHO ARRIVED IN THE CITY OF TASHKENT, THEIR ARRANGEMENT AND MAINTENANCE

The wave of refugee movement from West to East that swept across Russia reached the Turkestan Territory in mid-July 1915. Starting from August 1915, the refugees who had traveled further into the interior of the region until that time began to settle in Tashkent itself.

Since the highest local administration protested in general against sending refugees to the Territory, and especially to the city of Tashkent, pointing out that the presence of a large number of prisoners of war here already increased the cost of life, and with the arrival of refugees, prices would rise more, it was originally assumed that only 11-12 refugees were accepted thousand people, resettling them mainly in Russian settlements, to help the population for field and other peasant work.

The role of Khwarazm Mamun Academy “Dor-ul Hikmah and Ma’rifa” in the development of Islamic civilization

Thousand years ago, in Gurganj (Old Urgench), the capital of Khwarazm, the great scientific center of the East, Dar-ul Hikma and Ma’rif, was established under the direct leadership of the encyclopedic scholar Abu Rayhan Biruni. This university, which deals with current issues of science, has taken a worthy place in the development of world science, continuing the ancient scientific and enlightenment traditions formed in Baghdad two centuries ago, the “Bayt-ul Hikma” and Central Asia, especially in Khwarazm. The work of the scholars who created Dor-ul Hikma wa Ma’arif has aroused great interest among European and Russian orientalists in the last century. European scholar E. Zakhau, Russian orientalist acad. SP Tolstov, I.Yu. Krachkovsky, A.Yu. Yakubovsky, P.G. Bulgakov, Uzbek scientists acad. in their research they studied in depth the activities of this scientific institution and substantiated that it was the Academy of Sciences of its time. This scientific institution is now named after the Khwarazm Mamun Academy.
