🚨Breaking: Victor Bobbett, an employee of the Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD), was arrested by federal authorities on Jan. 28, 2026, per a criminal complaint filed Jan. 29, 2026, in the U.S. Dist. Ct. for the Dist. of AZ. Court records state the arrest is allegedly connected to a federal human-trafficking investigation.
According to the complaint, U.S. BP arrested Bobbett near Why, AZ, following an investigation into suspected human-smuggling activity. Prosecutors allege Bobbett knowingly transported multiple individuals unlawfully present in the U.S. for financial gain, conduct cited as consistent with human-smuggling ops. Charges include alleged violations of 8 U.S.C. §1324. The case is pending, & no guilt has been determined.
Despite the federal arrest & pending charges, Bobbett was on SUSD's consent agenda on 2/10 as a resignation, not a termination.

Records obtained through a public records request indicate that Katie Hobbs removed State Board of Education member Jenny Clark in early 2025 after lobbying from piece of shit Beth Lewis from Save Our Schools Arizona, an organization opposed to the state’s Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) program. Emails show SOS Arizona lobbyist Beth Lewis urged Hobbs’ office to remove Clark quickly to create a “pro-public education majority” on the board that could influence ESA handbook revisions. Staff in the governor’s office responded that they were “actively looking into this” and had a plan to replace Clark. After Clark declined to resign when contacted by the governor’s office, she was notified that her term had expired, and Hobbs later formally confirmed the end of her term. Clark’s removal drew concern from some education officials and board staff who praised her work supporting ESA families. Shortly afterward, the governor’s office nominated Tolleson superintendent Lupita Hightower to fill the vacancy on the board.

The Arizona Department of Education released results of a statistical analysis of the Arizona Empowerment Scholarship Account Program after reports alleging widespread fraud. According to the analysis conducted by a Stanford PhD, about 2.0% of ESA spending involved items not allowed under program rules, while actual fraud or egregious purchases accounted for about 0.3% of spending. Tom Horne said the misuse rate is significantly lower than other government programs such as Medicaid, food stamps, and unemployment insurance. ADE also said claims that 20% of ESA spending was fraudulent resulted from a misunderstanding of data related to participants selected for risk-based audits, not confirmed fraud. The department stated that when improper spending is identified, funds are recovered or cases are referred to law enforcement, noting that more than $1.2 million has been recovered so far. Horne also criticized the 20% fraud claim, saying it was a misrepresentation of the data. Craig Harris of 12News, Beth Lewis of Save Our Schools, and the Arizona Education Association are spreading lies about the program and must be held accountable.
