The extract is from a captivating book by Andrew Thomas, Atlantis From Legend to Discovery
The title speaks for itself, and I know that many will find such reading ridiculous.
Its Goodreads rating is just 3.47 because what the author presenrs as a proof doesn't always sound convincing or scientidic enough.
Anyway, I recommend it as a quality reading for a day or two, especially if you're also a fan of the lost civilization theory 😁

While I was feeding solids (прикорм) to the baby, I realized I forgot the word for кабачок.
A few moments later: a marrow is a variety of pumpkin 😱

arm's length - классная идиома, обозначающая:
1
a distance discouraging personal contact or familiarity
2
the condition or fact that the parties to a transaction are independent and on an equal footing
The manager tries to keep an arm's length relationship with his subordinates
An arm's-length relationship between buyers and suppliers is usually advisable
Arm’s-length bodies (ALB) are a specific category of central government public bodies that are administratively classified by the Cabinet Office. There are three types of ALB:
An executive agency (EA) is a clearly designated unit of a central government department. It is administratively distinct, but legally remains a part of it. It focuses on delivering specific outputs within a framework of accountability to ministers.
A non-departmental public body (NDPB) is a body which has a role in the processes of national government. It is not a government department but operates at arm’s length from ministers.
A non-ministerial department (NMD) is a government department in its own right, but does not have its own minister. However, it is accountable to Parliament through its sponsoring ministers

swing and miss
It comes from baseball, when the player swings the bat but doesn't hit the ball.
Figuratively, it means "a failed attempt" or "something that was unsuccessful

A fascinating over-analysis of the Little Mermaid cartoon.
I stumbled upon a reel stating that the Prince should be a Dagestani from Makhachkala as the sea is actually the Caspian sea, and started researching, because in my mind the story is based somewhere in the Mediterranean.
So have fun reading the peace that argues that the Prince is a Russian 😁

It's been a decade since we learnt the first lines at uni, I still remember them 😆

Day 4
Decluttering
As far as I remember, I have always been fighting the chaos of things around me. There's something deeply satisfying about Pinterest-style pictures of neetly organized studues, books arranged on the shelves by colours, rooms with perfectly matching furniture. For the most part of my life my space was quite the opposite, a mess of colours and shapes, and things scattered haphazardly all around the place. A clutter as it is.
And oh I've been trying to fix it. It took me decades, literally. Just a couple of years ago my rooms turned into something decent order-wise.
I love monochromatic minimaliatic spaces, I dramatically redecorated my old flat, radically eliminating all the colours to make it completely black-and-white. Ok, vintage yellowish herringbone tiles remain, a concession to my nostalgia.
Still a long way to go till I reach my dream environment: Pinterest-looking, Japanese-style space, which is basically an empty room.
