UNIFIL statement (26 December 2025)

This morning, heavy machine gunfire from Israel Defense Forces (IDF) positions south of the Blue Line impacted close to a UNIFIL patrol inspecting a roadblock in the village of Bastarra. The gunfire followed a grenade explosion nearby.

While there was no damage to UNIFIL assets, the sound of the gunfire and the explosion left one peacekeeper slightly injured with ear concussion.

In a separate incident today, in the village of Kfar Shouba, another patrol carrying out a routine operational task also reported machine gunfire from the Israeli side in immediate proximity to their position.

UNIFIL had informed the IDF about the activities in those areas in advance, following usual practice for patrols in sensitive areas near the Blue Line.

Attacks on or near peacekeepers are serious violations of Security Council resolution 1701. We reiterate call to the IDF to cease aggressive behaviour and attacks on or near peacekeepers working for peace and stability along the Blue Line.

سقطت نيران رشاشات ثقيلة صباح اليوم من مواقع الجيش الإسرائيلي جنوب الخط الأزرق بالقرب من دورية تابعة لقوات الأمم المتحدة المؤقتة في لبنان (اليونيفيل) كانت تتفقد عائقاً على الطريق في قرية بسطرا. وجاء إطلاق النار عقب انفجار قنبلة يدوية في مكان قريب.

وبينما لم تلحق أي أضرار بممتلكات اليونيفيل، تسبب صوت إطلاق النار والانفجار في إصابة أحد جنود حفظ السلام بإصابة طفيفة بارتجاج في الأذن.

وفي حادثة منفصلة اليوم في بلدة كفرشوبا، أبلغت دورية حفظ سلام أخرى، كانت تقوم بمهمة عملياتية روتينية، عن إطلاق نار من الجانب الإسرائيلي على مقربة من موقعها.

وكانت اليونيفيل قد أبلغت الجيش الإسرائيلي مسبقاً بالأنشطة في تلك المناطق، وفقاً للإجراءات المعتادة للدوريات في المناطق الحساسة قرب الخط الأزرق.

وتُعدّ الهجمات على جنود حفظ السلام أو بالقرب منهم انتهاكات خطيرة لقرار مجلس الأمن الدولي 1701. نُجدد دعوتنا للجيش الإسرائيلي بالكف عن السلوك العدواني والهجمات على جنود حفظ السلام العاملين من أجل السلام والاستقرار على طول الخط الأزرق أو بالقرب منهم.

UNIFIL statement (2 January 2026)

Earlier today, peacekeepers on patrol near Kafer Shouba reported fifteen rounds of small arms fire that struck no more than fifty metres away from them. 
 
Less than twenty minutes later, peacekeepers in a second patrol in the same area reported approximately 100 rounds of machine-gun fire struck approximately fifty metres from them.
 
There was no damage or injury in either case.
 
Peacekeepers assessed that the fire came from an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) position south of the Blue Line in both cases, and UNIFIL sent a "stop fire" request through its liaison channels.

UNIFIL had informed the IDF about the activities in those areas in advance, following usual practice for patrols in sensitive areas near the Blue Line.

Incidents like these are happening on a too-regular basis, and becoming a concerning trend. Attacks on or near peacekeepers are serious violations of Security Council resolution 1701. We reiterate our call to the IDF to cease aggressive behaviour and attacks on or near peacekeepers working for peace and stability along the Blue Line.

أفاد جنود حفظ السلام عن تعرّضهم في وقت سابق من اليوم لإطلاق خمسة عشر طلقة من أسلحة خفيفة على مسافة لا تتجاوز خمسين متراً، وذلك أثناء قيامهم بدورية قرب كفرشوبا.

وبعد أقل من عشرين دقيقة، أفاد جنود حفظ السلام في دورية ثانية بالمنطقة نفسها عن تعرّضهم لإطلاق نحو مئة طلقة من رشاشات على مسافة خمسين متراً تقريباً.

ولم تُسفر أي من الحالتين عن أضرار أو إصابات.

وقد رجّح جنود حفظ السلام أن إطلاق النار جاء من موقع تابع لجيش الدفاع الإسرائيلي جنوب الخط الأزرق في كلتا الحالتين، وأرسلت اليونيفيل طلباً "لوقف الرمي بالنار" عبر قنوات الاتصال الخاصة بها.

وكانت اليونيفيل قد أبلغت جيش الدفاع الإسرائيلي مسبقاً عن الأنشطة في تلك المناطق، وفقاً للإجراءات المعتادة للدوريات في المناطق الحساسة قرب الخط الأزرق.

وتقع مثل هذه الحوادث بشكل متكرر، ما يُنذر بظاهرة مقلقة. إن الهجمات على قوات حفظ السلام أو بالقرب منها تشكل انتهاكات خطيرة لقرار مجلس الأمن الدولي 1701. ونكرر دعوتنا لجيش الدفاع الإسرائيلي لوقف السلوك العدواني والهجمات على قوات حفظ السلام العاملة من أجل السلام والاستقرار على طول الخط الأزرق أو بالقرب منه.

UNIFIL statement (12 January 2026)

Earlier today, UNIFIL peacekeepers observed two Merkava tanks move from an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) position inside Lebanese territory near Sarda further into Lebanon. The peacekeepers requested through liaison channels that the tanks stop their activity. 

Some time later, one of the tanks fired three shells from its main gun, with two impacts approximately 150 meters away from the peacekeepers. 

As the peacekeepers moved away for safety, they were continuously tracked with a laser from the tanks. 

The tanks left about half an hour later. Fortunately, no one was hurt. 

UNIFIL had informed the IDF about the activities in those areas in advance, following usual practice for patrols in sensitive areas near the Blue Line.
 
Attacks like these on identifiable peacekeepers performing tasks under Security Council resolution 1701 are becoming disturbingly common. Such attacks are a serious violation of resolution 1701. 

We again remind the IDF of its obligation to ensure the safety of peacekeepers and to cease attacks on them. This aggression undermines resolution 1701 and the stability that peacekeepers and the parties are working to secure.

في وقتٍ سابق من اليوم، رصدت قوات حفظ السلام التابعة لليونيفيل تحرّك دبابتين من طراز ميركافا من موقع تابع لجيش الدفاع الإسرائيلي داخل الأراضي اللبنانية، بالقرب من سردا، إلى عمقٍ أكبر داخل لبنان. وقد طلبت قوات حفظ السلام، عبر قنوات الارتباط، من الدبابات وقف أنشطتها.

وبعد فترة من الوقت، أطلقت إحدى الدبابات ثلاث قذائف من سلاحها الرئيسي، سقطت اثنتان منها على مسافة تقارب 150 مترًا من قوات حفظ السلام.
وأثناء تحرّك قوات حفظ السلام للابتعاد حفاظًا على سلامتها، جرى تتبّعها بشكل متواصل بواسطة أشعة الليزر الصادرة من الدبابات.

وغادرت الدبابات المكان بعد نحو نصف ساعة. ولحسن الحظ، لم تُسجَّل أي إصابات.

وكانت اليونيفيل قد أبلغت جيش الدفاع الإسرائيلي مسبقًا بالأنشطة في تلك المناطق، وفق الممارسات المعتادة اثناء عمل الدوريات في المناطق الحسّاسة القريبة من الخط الأزرق.

إنّ هجمات من هذا النوع على قوات حفظ سلام معرّفة بوضوح، وتؤدي مهامها بموجب قرار مجلس الأمن رقم 1701، باتت تتكرّر بشكل مقلق. وتشكل هذه الهجمات انتهاكًا جسيمًا للقرار 1701.

وتجدّد اليونيفيل تذكيرها جيش الدفاع الإسرائيلي بواجبه في ضمان سلامة قوات حفظ السلام ووقف الهجمات ضدها. إن هذا العدوان يقوّض القرار 1701 والاستقرار الذي تعمل قوات حفظ السلام والأطراف المعنية على ترسيخه.

Last night, two possible illuminating flare mortar rounds hit the helipad and main gate of a UN position southwest of Yaroun.
 
Peacekeepers immediately went to shelter for their safety. Fortunately, no one was hurt. UNIFIL sent a stop fire request to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
 
Yet again, we remind the IDF of its obligation to ensure the safety of peacekeepers and to cease activities that endanger them and their positions. Any actions that put peacekeepers at risk are serious violations of Security Council resolution 1701, and undermine the stability we are working to achieve.

Yesterday, peacekeepers on a planned patrol near Adeisse were warned by locals about a potential danger at a home, and discovered an explosive device connected to a detonating cord.
 
The peacekeepers set up a security cordon and prepared to check another house. Soon after, a drone that had been hovering overhead dropped a grenade about 30 metres from the peacekeepers.
 
UNIFIL sent a stop-fire request to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Fortunately, no one was injured.
 
Such IDF activities on Lebanese territory put local civilians at risk and are a violation of Security Council resolution 1701. 
 
We remind the IDF of its obligation to ensure the safety of peacekeepers and to cease activities that endanger them. Any actions that put peacekeepers at risk are serious violations of Security Council resolution 1701, and undermine the stability all of us are working to achieve.

أمس، وأثناء تنفيذ دورية مُخطّط لها قرب منطقة العديسة، تلقّى جنود حفظ السلام تحذيرًا من السكان المحليين بشأن خطرٍ مُحتمل في أحد المنازل، حيث عثروا على عبوة ناسفة موصولة بسلك تفجير.

وعلى إثر ذلك، قام جنود حفظ السلام بتطويق المنطقة واستعدّوا لتفتيش منزلٍ آخر، إلا أنّه بعد وقتٍ قصير، أقدمت طائرة مُسيّرة كانت تحلّق في الأجواء على إلقاء قنبلة يدوية على بُعد نحو 30 مترًا من موقع الجنود.

وعلى الفور، أرسلت قوات اليونيفيل طلبًا بوقف إطلاق النار إلى جيش الدفاع الإسرائيلي، ولحسن الحظ لم تُسجّل أي إصابات.

إنّ مثل هذه الأنشطة التي يقوم بها جيش الدفاع الإسرائيلي على الأراضي اللبنانية تُعرّض المدنيين المحليين للخطر، وتُشكّل انتهاكًا لقرار مجلس الأمن رقم 1701.

UNIFIL statement (16 January 2026)

This morning, an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Merkava tank south of the Blue Line fired approximately 30 small-calibre bullets toward a UNIFIL position near Kafer Chouba.

The bullets hit a sentry post and one penetrated one of the position's living accommodations, probably after ricocheting. Fortunately, the occupant was not present when the bullet entered, and no one was hurt.

UNIFIL asked the IDF to stop its fire through our liaison mechanisms.

We remind the IDF of its obligation to ensure the safety of peacekeepers and to cease activities that endanger them and their positions. Any actions that put peacekeepers at risk are serious violations of Security Council resolution 1701, and undermine the stability we are working to achieve.

هذا الصباح، أطلقت دبابة ميركافا تابعة لجيش الدفاع الإسرائيلي جنوب الخط الأزرق حوالي ثلاثين رصاصة من عيار صغير نحو موقع لليونيفيل بالقرب من كفر شوبا.

أصابت الرصاصات موقع حراسة، واخترقت إحداها أماكن السكن داخل الموقع، على الأرجح بعد ارتدادها. ولحسن الحظ، لم يكن أحد متواجدًا عند دخول الرصاصة، ولم تُسجَّل أي إصابات.

Partnership and commitment to Resolution 1701 are key to stability. We value our strong ties with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and security authorities as we work together to bring back stability in the south.

Peacekeepers work closely with the LAF every day. We support their deployment across the south, helping them restore state authority and supporting their work to establish an area free of unauthorized weapons between the Litani River and the Blue Line.
