I don’t love Bonnie

Like the title says I do not love Bonnie. I don’t think that the character is necessarily bad and there are times when I do like her, specially in season 6, but despite all that, overall I don’t feel similarly to people going crazy for her, hoping she was the main character or got a spin off.

There were quite a few times when I found her rigidity off putting, for example her behaviour around and towards Caroline after she was turned. Like that was supposed to be your best friend who was murdered and turned into a vampire. It didn’t feel right, even considering Carter’s death. Even if you consider her not being able to accept Caroline because of killing Carter, there was still not enough mourning for her childhood friend who was majorly struggling.

Her lying about the Gilbert device, getting Anna killed 🤧 I liked Anna. Her being naive around Shawn, dabbling in expression, doing everything her grams tells her not to do. Even in season 6 it annoyed me how she made things worse with Kai when merging with Luke seemed to have actually bettered him a little. I will let that one go because I did appreciate the portrayal of PTSD there when violence is otherwise a very usual thing in TVD. Even when she goes all ‘I am gonna put myself first now’, she just messes things up with no major benefit to her. Better to separate herself from the group altogether at that point. Just unnecessary plot lines that were already annoying coming from side characters like enzo. I just don’t think it’s a very well written character.

I know I am going to get hate on this. This is not to say her character didn’t have potential, it is to say that I didn’t like it for what it actually was in the show. I often find her annoying with either being overly self righteous or doing/deciding to do things that are very clearly a very bad idea, often against everything witches stand for.

I do feel like a lot of us feel bad for Kat considering the possibility of racism, sexism and general mistreatment and in some way we try to support her through showing love for her character but in doing that we over compensate.

So who actually is Damon without Elena?

Just finished rewatching for prob the millionth time, and I typically only ever get up to season six because i cant stand watching seven and eight lol. From what I remember from those two seasons, damon never progressed as a person and over and over showed that the reason he did anything remotely good was because of elena... so did he really just regress to a murderous selfish manipulative guy that only cared three people (stefan, elena, and sometimes bonnie?), or is there more to damon to watch that im forgetting that can help me get through the next two seasons?

Why does anyone like Hayley?

I’m on my third rewatch of this show season 4 and she just meticulously planned the death of 12 people all for information on family she doesn’t know. Later on she beds klaus and has his baby. Don’t really care about that. I admit I haven’t watched the originals but I really don’t hear about any big acts of kindness beyond protecting her direct family. So how exactly do so many people love her character when in TVD at least she brought nothing to the table, not even personality wise? We really don’t see any actions or dialogue from her character that isn’t directly related to the hybrid plot point. She’s like an empty vessel with no emotion or passion
