⭐️ 79 years ago, on 20 June 1945, the Victory Banner was delivered to Moscow from Berlin - the very banner that was raised over the defeated Reichstag on the night of May 1, 1945, by Red Army soldiers of the 150th Rifle Division Mikhail Egorov, Meliton Kantaria and Alexey Berest.

Photos of the burning Reichstag with the Victory Banner flying above its dome were published in the Russian newspaper Pravda on May 3, 1945. The Red Banner, pierced by bullets, stained with blood, became a sacred relic.

Transporting the Banner was entrusted to pilots of the 226th aviation regiment, formed shortly before by officers of the 62nd separate Guards regiment of the USSR Civil Air Fleet.

For some time the original Victory Banner was stored in the combined battalion of the 1st Belorussian Front, then it was sent to the Central Museum of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, where it is still kept.

🇷🇺 It is shown very rarely: the fabric is too fragile. The banner is kept unfurled and in a horizontal position in a glass showcase, which does not allow ultraviolet rays to pass through, while optimal temperature and air humidity are maintained inside. An exact replica of the original flag is on display in the Museum's permanent exhibition.

☝️ The blood-red cloth remains the main symbol of the Great Patriotic War, a source of pride of all the peoples of the USSR who contributed to our common Victory.

📆 #OTD, 92 years ago, on June 20, 1932, Soviet-Russian poet Robert Rozhdestvensky was born.

📝 One of the brightest representatives of the "Sixtiers", he entered the world literature along with a group of talented peers - Evgeny Yevtushenko, Bella Akhmadulina, Andrei Voznesensky - who pioneered a newer, fresher, and freer style of poetry in the Soviet Union.

🎶 Presented with many awards, including the USSR State Prize (for the poem "210 Steps"), Rozhdestvensky, like many representatives of the “young poetry” of the 1950-1960s, actively collaborated with various composers, including Aleksandra Pakhmutova, Mikael Tariverdiev, Muslim Magomayev, Matvey Blanter and others, and also wrote lyrics for many popular songs.

The “Candle of Memory” event was held at the Russian House in New Delhi as a sign of admiration for the participants of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945), veterans of the Home Front, and millions of people tortured in concentration camps.
👱‍♂️ Director of the Russian House in New Delhi Oleg Osipov reminded Indians and Russian compatriots that June 22 - the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow - is one of the most tragic pages in the history of our country. “In 1941, the USSR was attacked not only by Nazi Germany. On the same day Italy and Romania declared war on, and on June 25 - Finland. The Wehrmacht included military units from Spain, Albania, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Holland, Norway, Croatia and other European countries,” he noted.
📎The All-Russian action “Candle of Memory” symbolizes the unification of the people, their respect for the past and the desire to preserve peace and tranquility on earth.
