๐Ÿ“† On June 6, #RussianLanguageDay is celebrated in Russia and across the globe.

๐Ÿ“ #OTD, 225 years ago, in 1799, the greatest poet, writer, publicist, creator of the modern Russian literary language, Alexander Pushkin, was born.

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ณ In Russia, the holiday was established by the Presidential decree of June 6, 2011, while at the international level it was proclaimed by the UN Department of Public Information (current Department of Global Communications) in 2010 as part of the programme for recognition of multilingualism and cultural diversity.

โœ๏ธ On the occasion of #RussianLanguageDay and the 225th birth anniversary of Alexander Pushkin, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made a congratulatory address, in which he underscored the significance of the Russian language in the world and expressed gratitude to public figures and Russian compatriots living abroad for their contribution to the preservation and promotion of the Russian language.

๐Ÿ“š On June 6, on the occasion of the #RussianLanguageDay and the 225th birth anniversary of Alexander Pushkin, representatives of the Russian Embassy in India, the Russian House in New Delhi, the Indian Association of Russian Compatriots, Russian philologists and students studying Russian at the Delhi universities laid flowers at the poet's monument located in the center of the Indian capital.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ On this day, the Russian House in New Delhi also hosted the Pushkin Readings, in which over 50 admireres of the great Russian poet took part. Among them were Prof Neelakshi Suryanarayan, Prof Abhai Maurya, Dr Sonu Saini, Prof Meeta Narain, Assoc Prof Meenu Bhatnagar, Asst Prof Anju Rani.

๐Ÿ“ Participants of the event read the works of the classic in Russian, English and Hindi. An award ceremony took place to award the most active students of Russian language courses at the Russian House. There was also a quiz on knowledge of the work of Alexander Pushkin.

๐Ÿ“– On August 13, the Centre Russian Studies of Jawaharlal Nehru University held a presentation of four editions created to develop Russian-Indian cooperation in the field of literature.

1. "Katai Mushkil Nahi" by Madhav Kaushik (Hindi poetry translated into Russian by Sonu Saini)

2. "Indian Pushkin - Shailendra" by Indrajeet Singh (Hindi prose translated into Russian by Sonu Saini)

3. "Handbook on Theory, Practice and Analysis of a Literary Text" by Sonu Saini and Irina Poplavskaya

4. "Russian in Exercises" (Updated Edition 2024) by S.A. Khovronina

๐ŸŸฃThe event was organized by Sonu Saini, the Head of the Russian Language Center at J.Nehru University.

๐ŸŸฃThe event was attended by Yulia Aryaeva, Counsellor of the Russian Embassy in India. A number of Russian translators from different cities of Russia participated in the event online.

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ A trip to India for Russian schoolchildren is being organised this autumn as part of an international initiative of โ€œMIR PROSVESHENIYAโ€ (World of education).

๐ŸŸฃ A group of students from educational institutions in Rostov-on-Don and Lugansk will visit the Sancta Maria International School in Faridabad, Haryana, to strengthen cultural and academic ties between the two countries.

๐ŸŸฃ The programme of the stay envisages participation of Russian schoolchildren in the educational process, organisation of seminars on Russian culture and holding joint events to mark the Indian Diwali holiday and the Russian Day of National Unity.

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ The event is designed to develop the interest of Indian teenagers in mastering the Russian language and getting acquainted with Russian culture. The administration of "Sancta Maria" has expressed interest in the possible inclusion of the Russian language in the curriculum. The organisation of a return tour of Indian students to Russia is also being considered in the future.

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ On August 23, a basic agreement was signed between St. Petersburg State University (SPbSU) and the University of Kerala. The ceremony was held in an online format with the assistance of the Honorary Consulate of the Russian Federation and the Russian House in Trivandrum.

โšก๏ธ The event was attended by Dr Sergey Andryshin, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation of SPbSU, and Prof K.S. Anilkumarom, Registrar of the University of Kerala.

โšก๏ธ Under the agreement, SPbSU will support the professional development of Russian language teachers at the University of Kerala. In turn, the Indian university will facilitate the opening of a Malayalam language course at SPbSU.

๐Ÿ“š On September 9, the Jawaharlal Nehru University (#JNU) in New Delhi hosted a ceremonial opening of the Second Professional Education Programme in Russian Language, Literature and Culture.

๐Ÿซ The event was jointly organised by the JNU Centre for Russian Studies (#CRS) and the Minin University of Nizhny Novgorod.

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ ๐Ÿค ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ It was attended by representatives from both universities, including Prof. Richa Sawant, Chairperson of the CRS, and Prof. Viktor Sdobnyakov, Rector of the Minin University, who welcomed the gathering online and introduced the Russian teachers of the programme to the JNU students.

๐ŸŸฃ Special guests: Ulia Aryaeva, Counsellor of the Russian Embassy in India, and Elena Remizova, Head of the Russian House in New Delhi.

๐ŸŸฃThe programme is designed for a fortnight and includes a series of classes on the following topics: "Travelling around Russia with Russian writers", "Such a different Russia", "Everything secret becomes obvious" (Russian language metaphor), "Politeness strategies in Russian-speaking culture".

โœ๏ธ In 2024, the Pushkin Institute will hold the XX International Russian Language Olympiad for Foreign Students named after Vitaly Kostomarov.

๐Ÿ“š It is open to high school students 14 to 18 years old studying Russian as a foreign language or studying in Russian.

๐ŸŸฃThe competition is held in several stages: registration (until September 22, 2024), competition stage (September 23 โ€” October 1, 2024), semi-final (October 2-10, 2024) and final (October 30 โ€” November 2, 2024 in Moscow). The first two stages are held remotely via the portal โ€œEducation in Russianโ€, and the final one โ€” in person.

๐Ÿฅ‡The winners of the Olympiad will receive valuable prizes, including the opportunity to study free of charge at the Pushkin Institute.

โ˜๏ธTo participate in the Olympiad it is necessary to register on the portal โ€œEducation in Russianโ€ and fill in the participant's application until September 22.

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ On September 28, at the Russian House in New Delhi, Minister Counsellor & DCM of the Russian Embassy in India Roman Babushkin addressed the meeting of the Indian Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature (INDAPRYAL) dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the organization.

๐Ÿ“ฐ He noted the great contribution of INDAPRYAL to strengthening the position of the Russian language in India. In the context of the steady expansion of the bilateral cooperation, Roman Babushkin expressed confidence that the demand for specialists with Russian language skills will also grow. In this regard, he underscored the importance of continuing efforts to further develop Russian studies in India.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ Prof. Charanjit Singh, President of INDAPRYAL, and Dr Elena Remizova, Representative of Rossotrudnichestvo in India, also addressed the participants of the meeting with welcoming words.

๐Ÿ”˜During the event, a message from Vladimir Tolstoy, President of MAPRYAL as well as reports on the state of Russian language teaching in different regions of India were heard.
