💼 #OTD, 230 years ago, on January 15, 1795, outstanding Russian diplomat, writer, orientalist and playwright
Alexander Griboyedov was born. His friend, the great Russian poet, Alexander Pushkin rightly called him one of the smartest people in Russia.
📍 In 1818, Alexander
#Griboyedov was appointed a
secretary of the Russian diplomatic mission to Persia (now Iran).
🤝 His contribution to the Russian diplomacy is difficult to overestimate. He prepared the
Treaty of Turkmenchay beneficial for Russia that ended the Second Russo-Persian War of 1826-1828. The diplomat brought it to St Petersburg and for this was conferred the Order of Saint Anna, the rank of state councillor and the appointment of minister plenipotentiary to Persia.
☝️ According to
Griboyedov, Russia's Eastern policy should be aimed at expanded political, economic and cultural
cooperation between Russia and the countries of the East.
📝 He was also regarded as a talented poet following the first staging of his
comedy in verse "Woe from Wit", which he began working on while serving in Georgia.
