On February 11-12, a discussion is being held in New Delhi on the issues of literary translation from Indian languages into Russian and from Russian into numerous dialects of the Asian country. The first day of the international conference โ€œRethinking the meaning of culture, literature and literary translationโ€ is hosted by the Russian House, the second - by the Sahitya National Academy of Literature.
The opening speakers included the director of the Institute of World Literature named after A.M. Gorky of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vadim Polonsky, executive director of the Institute of Translation Evgeny Reznichenko, former head of the department of Slavic and Finno-Ugric languages at the University of Delhi Ranjana Saxena, professor at the Center for Russian Studies at the University. Jawaharlal Nehru (JNU) Ranjan Banerjee and JNU Professor Sonu Saini.

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ On September 6, Sonu Saini, a senior lecturer at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, was inducted as an honorary member of the Union of Writers of Russia. The credential award ceremony took place in Moscow. The Union's Chairman Nikolay Ivanov personally presented the Indian scholar with the membership card and the organization's badge.

๐Ÿ“š Sonu Saini is renowned for his translations of Russian classics and contemporary literature into Hindi. He implements programs to adapt Russian works into Indian languages strengthening cultural ties between the two countries.

๐Ÿ—ฃ Sonu Saini has repeatedly served as an interpreter for India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the international meetings. His efforts aimed at developing Russian-Indian relations and popularizing the Russian literature have received high acclaim from the professional community.

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ On October 5, the diplomats of the Russian Embassy in India joined the online inauguration of the Camp for Young Translators, India โ€” an educational programme in literary translation from Russian into Hindi for university students.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ The winners will be invited to visit the creative residence in Peredelkino, Moscow, and a chance to be published in India.

๐ŸŸฃThe programme is organised by the Association of Translators-Interpreters of Indian Rusists in collaboration with the Institute of Literary Translation, Dom Tvorchestva (House of Creativity) โ€œPeredelkinoโ€ and Sahitya Akademi.

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ On October 5-12, a 7-day intensive educational course on literary translation from Russian into Hindi, the "School of Young Translators in India", was held. The organizers were the Association of Translators-Interpreters of Indian Rusists, Institute of Literary Translation, Dom Tvorchestva (House of Creativity) โ€œPeredelkinoโ€, Sahitya Akademi and the Russian Embassy in India.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ As part of the programme, a translation competition was held, in which 26 students took part. 7 winners were invited to join the 8-day camp of the School, where they will improve their skills under the guidance of experienced translators such as Ekaterina Pokholkova, Pankaj Malviya, Ranjana Saxena, Ranjana Banerjee, Kiran Singh Verma, Pragati Tipnis, Anil Janvijay, Sonu Saini and others.

๐Ÿ“š The text of Anna Shipilova's story translated during the competition will be sent to Russia for review. All winners of the project will go to the Peredelkino House of Creativity to participate in a translation conference in December 2024.
