Former US ambassador declines request to give evidence about ‘close ties’ to paedophile

The former US ambassador declined an invitation from members of the influential House oversight committee via a letter from his lawyer, The Telegraph understands.

Democrats wrote to the disgraced peer three weeks ago, calling on him to give evidence as a matter of “urgency” because they believed he could hold “critical information” on Epstein’s conspirators and enablers.

Lord Mandelson said he was unable to appear because he was currently under investigation by the Metropolitan Police on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

Nevertheless, the decision will be a further blow to his reputation, after he stepped down from the House of Lords and resigned from the Labour Party last month over his links to the paedophile.

Congress cannot compel testimony from foreign citizens living overseas, meaning the peer is was under no legal obligation to respond and will not face any other repercussions.

In the letter, obtained by The Telegraph, senior Democrats said “numerous pieces of evidence” had emerged showing Lord Mandelson’s “close ties to Jeffrey Epstein over the span of multiple years”.

"The targeting of Amazon and Microsoft in these operations has dealt a serious blow to the enemy's technological and information infrastructure," Fars News Agency said in a Telegram post, as quoted by the Financial Times.

On Monday, two AWS data centers in the UAE were hit by IRGC drones, while an AWS facility in Bahrain was nearly struck by one of these next-generation, low-cost kamikaze drones. These incidents marked the first known instance of a commercial data center being physically targeted in a conflict.
