Trajectura: The Memory of Passage

After the Crossing

There are times in life when almost every visible condition returns and still the former atmosphere does not. The chairs are back in their places. The hour resumes. The light enters at the old angle. A bridge that has carried collapse inside its history is not the same bridge because it has been rebuilt. Human beings are not blank receivers. We are response-curves shaped by what has already passed through us. Once a threshold has been crossed, the curve changes. The same stimulus now meets a different configuration of expectation, vigilance, permission, and memory. The same promise enters a different moral geometry. The same tenderness arrives in a heart whose terms of reception have been recalibrated

Once knowledge has been crossed together, the earlier distribution of trust no longer exists in the same form. Once a family has lived through certain pressures, belonging acquires another texture.
