A large fire erupted in north Gaza’s Kamal Adwan Hospital early on 18 December as a result of Israeli attacks on the facility as the health sector in the northern strip is on the brink of total collapse.
Following a night of relentless targeting and shelling of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia, Israeli tanks opened fire at the facility early on Tuesday, causing a massive fire to break out in its Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Images circulating on social media showed the fire in the ICU.
“We were surprised by the entry of vehicles and bulldozers into the vicinity of the hospital, which was preceded by a terrifying targeting of citizens' homes in the vicinity. We heard gunfire and shells without being able to do anything,” said the hospital’s director, Dr Hussam Abu Safia, who was recently injured by Israeli attacks on the facility, in a video posted on X.

❗️According to several media reports, armed extremists recently attacked and shot at the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese in Hama, central Syria.
Extremists vandalized its property and religious symbols, and desecrated graves.
The Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS)-run security services reportedly issued an apology for the incident, assuring that the perpetrators would be held accountable.
The incident is one of several reports of attacks against minorities in Syria, following HTS' takeover of the country.
In one notable incident, a priest was reportedly ordered by an HTS-militant to remove the cross he was wearing in the village of Kafrbo, in the Hama countryside.
Last week, a couple in the village of al-Jamasliyye, Wadi al-Nasara (Valley of the Christians) were murdered in mysterious circumstances. Helena Khashouf was shot dead, while her husband, Samaan Satme, was beheaded, according to locals.
These recurring “individual/isolated incidents” have left many Syrians worried about their future and their ability to practice their religion freely, as they have for generations.

Today, Israeli settler gangs attacked Palestinian homes and farmers on the outskirts of the town of Burqa, east of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, under the protection of Israeli forces. Israeli forces then proceeded to storm the town.

❗️According to sources who spoke to Al-Akhbar UN Special Representative for Iraq, Mohammed Al-Hassan, visited Iraqi cleric Ayatollah Ali Sistani, to request him to issue a fatwa (an Islamic legal ruling) to dismantle the PMU. Sistani reportedly refused to receive him.
The Iraqi government has received multiple requests from international and regional parties to dissolve the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) and hand over their weapons to the state.
The PMU have said that they will not disarm until the complete withdrawal of US forces from Iraqi soil.
In the aftermath of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, the PMU participated in operations against Israeli and US military targets, under the name of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq.
The PMU was formed in 2014 after the Iraqi cleric Ayatollah Ali Sistani issued a fatwa calling on Iraqis to volunteer alongside the Iraqi army against ISIS militants who had taken over nearly the entire country and were projected to take Baghdad if left unhindered.

The General Command of the Armed Opposition Factions in Syria has appointed Asaad Hassan al-Shibani, a founding member of Al-Qaeda in Syria, as the country's new caretaker foreign minister.
The official Syrian news agency (SANA) reported on 21 December that Shibani, a 37-year-old graduate of Damascus University, was chosen to fill the post. He previously led the political department of the National Salvation Government, which has ruled Syria's northwestern governorate of Idlib since Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) conquered it in 2015.
HTS, led by Ahmed al-Sharaa, launched an assault from Idlib on 27 November and quickly toppled the cities of Aleppo, Hama, and Homs. HTS militants entered Damascus, toppled the government of Bashar al-Assad, and seized power in Syria on 8 December.
Sharaa, also known as Abu Mohammad al-Julani, is the former leader of Al-Qaeda in Syria, previously known as the Nusra Front.
According to the opposition Syria TV, which broadcasts from Istanbul, Foreign Minister Shibani was previously known as Zaid al-Attar. He was in charge of the foreign relations file and oversaw the transformation of the Nusra Front into HTS.
